Hi there. I am new here and new to Avonex...I had my first shot 1.5 weeks ago and afterwards, the numbness in my leg started becoming worse and spread more every day. My Doc said it's natural and it wil be like this for the first few times. He said it will last for a few days only, after each shot. Now...after my second shot...it still hasn't gone, I feel my whole body numb apart from my head. I'm having trouble typing because i can't feel my fingers. etc.
Anyone know something that can help me out on this? I am realy confused and disapointed.

I have been on Avonex for about 8 years. I have never heard of this symptom. It could be that you are having a relapse which was coincidental with your initial Avonex injection. However, if it is due to Avonex, then it sounds serious enough to stop it immediately. If your doctor won't check you out, find one that will and preferably the sooner the better.

Hi
I was on Avonex. I am off now because I am pregnant. I don't really remember how long after I started my shots this was but I also initially started to have more symptoms. They also told me that this could happen. My symptoms took about a month to disapear. Hope this helps. My personal thought is that it is an attack and it's possibly caused by a reaction to the drug. I got over it though and I think that I would go back on Avonex after my delivery. I just felt better on it.

I just administered my first treatment of Avonex yesterday and I felt fine until I had ice cream. I had chills for two to three hours shivering violently in bed under three blankets. Then, my arm and leg went numb. Now, I know that MS likes to attack my right arm and leg when it shows up. I don't know what could have triggered this numbness after the Avonex but my right arm and my thumb and two end fingers are still numb. How are you doing now? Has your numbness gone?
