I don't know what's wrong. Could I have MS?

Hi, This is my first forum post. It started 2 years ago and I got really sick. I was blacking out and felt like I was on a merry go round. I checked myself into emg (cause this was not normal for me) I got a severe headache and so dizzy with alot of throwing up. I was hooked up to an IV and sent for a CT scan and blood test. Came back normal as long as the blood test too. I was sent home and told that an MRI would be arranged for me. I also went to an Ears nose and throat dr. She sent me for an ENG test. That was normal. She found nothing wrong. I then had my MRI of my brain, that came back normal. Around 3 months later I started to notice these what i call electric body shocks. I went to a neurologist he did some tests and sent me for a EEG test. That came back normal. I then started to give up, I was feeling sicker and nothing was found. I went to a naturopathic dr in Vancouver bc, this dr specializes in Lyme disease. He did some blood tests and after looking into that he determined it was not lyme. I then got pregnant and after about 5 months into the pregnancy i felt all better! No more symptoms! It was a miracle. Then 7months after my son was born i started to get the body shocks again! I now just went back to my neurologist and he did his in office checks and said that he was going to send me for another MRI. I tried to ask why? And he told me my last one was 2 years ago and it was time again for another one. I tried to ask why and what did he think? but he won't tell me anything. Why is he again ordering another mri? This time Brain and neck. I go in the end of march. My symptoms are up and down. I have a lot of brain fog, headaches, some dizziness again, weakness, and shortness of breath and the shocks. I use to work out everyday and consider myself pretty active but lately it's too hard to work out. I'm just so tired. I am not and have not been on any medications. My neurologist has given me a sample of Lyrica but I haven't started. I just want to see what the MRI is going to say first. I am just fed up, my family dr is sick of me telling her that I am not myself and I know that something is wrong! I am a very active (before) outgoing very healthy person most of my life. The shocks by the way are in my arms, hands, fingers, shoulders, hips, legs feet. I get them all the time and lately now in my head. Sometimes some are worse then others. I think i figured out now that fatigue and heat worsens them. I hope that something can be figured out soon. I just don't know where to turn to anymore. Thanks for reading all this. Is it possible I might have MS? Looking for suggestions. Thanks!

Yes, it's possible. It's also possible that you could have some other condition. An MS diagnosis is one of exclusion. In effect, after excluding all other likely candidates, you take a look at what's left and see if MS fits.

One thing to note, it is common for women to experience a reprieve of MS symptoms during pregnancy. The interpretation here is that the developing fetus is a foreign body and the immune system must become more tolerant in order to prevent harm to the baby. However, even this is not specific to MS, but could be associated with other diseases with immune system involvement.

Thank you NHE for your response. I agree, finding the dr that wants to eliminate any of this is the challenge i've been having. And yes I was also told by 3 different dr's that what i have can go into remission in pregnancy. Thanks again for reading my post and providing some info. i appreciate it!!

I second everything that NHE said: welcome, possible MS – possibly something else, pregnancy reprieve.

Let me offer my unique idea on this pregnancy aspect. This sentence is fact: Pregnant women produce increased insulin in order to put weight on the developing fetus – the developing child absorbs this excess. After delivery and/or stopping breast-feeding, the mother's body may continue to produce excess insulin (over what her own body needs). I believe excess insulin is responsible for my MS symptoms (only in the last month have I been able with diet to reduce my insulin level to an optimal). I suggest your doctor order a "fasting blood insulin test" – this is NOT the same as a blood sugar test – the optimal test result is 3 UU/ML or lower.

I suspect your symptoms which started before your pregnancy were due to your pancreas already producing excess insulin in response to diet (gluten, carbohydrates, artificial sweeteners, trans fats, MSG, BPA – there are lots of elements that trigger insulin production).
