Baclofen, have you tried it?

Hi,

I just started taking the baclofen that my doctor prescribed for me and wondered if anyone here has or is taking it? This is just day two for me and I'm only taking 1/4 of the dose she gave me, she said that was fine, and only 2 x a day rather than 3, but it seems to be helping. I'm a super lightweight when it comes to medications. I got a very sound 6 hours of sleep before my back and arms started hurting too much to rest. I have read about some pretty bad withdraw symptoms, and that's my only concern. Although, it also looks like this is okay to take long term. Any experience with this and advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

I tried baclofen. It did not help.
Magnesium did and does, though. There are a lot of posts here jimmylegs and THX1138 (me) have a lot to say on it.

I haven' tried that yet. Does it work well for you? Do you buy it or make your own?

It works really well for me. I seriously wonder if I could have made much progress at all just taking oral Mg. I now look at oral Mg as being very second rate compared to transdermal Mg.

I buy both magnesium chloride flakes and Mg "oil". I bought the Mg "oil" when it was 1/2 price at swansonvitamins.com I buy the Ancient Minerals flakes (clinical pack) at amazon.com
I make foot soaks from the flakes. I have also made Mg "oil" from the flakes a few times by mixing water with the flakes. The mixture was about 2 cups of flakes to 1 cup of water.

I find the transdermal Mg to be far superior at getting Mg into my body and with no stool-softening effect whatsoever it never even goes into the GI tract.

It is recommended to start at a low dose of Mg (oral or transdermal) and gradually increase the amount.

Epsom salts are another form of transdermal Mg and is magnesium sulfate. I have read that magnesium sulfate is not as effective, though. So I use the magnesium chloride, instead.
Transdermal Mg does seem kind of pricey, but If one is serious about getting magnesium, I consider it clearly the way to go.

Here is an article from the "Mg doctor" I have found to be really helpful:

Hi and thanks for the info! Jimmylegs, I am taking 725 mg. of magnesium citrate everyday with no stomach upset at all. As for my diet, I drink mineral water with 7% mag. everyday, all throughout the day. I kind of addicted to it! lol I have added nuts, almonds and cashews in particular, spinach, which I always love and eat on a regular basis. I eat brown rice and different cereals too. I also eat a lot of fresh salmon, I am a huge lover of seafood. Hmm....can't think of anything else off of the top of my head.

saja - I had a scout around this morning and added some more info on your magnesium topic.

also - were you still working on a food/fluid/med/supplement diary? I'm hoping to look at whether your diet has enough zinc to assist with magnesium absorption/utilization. you don't appear to have a serum zinc result, so the diet diary could provide some alternate info for the short term.
