MRI TOMORROW

I’ll have a 3rd MRI tomorrow; this one’s with contrast, as they are going to finally actually look at the possibility of MS... We live part of the year in Panama and part in Texas, which complicates medical continuity a bit - I have doctors at both ends. I'm 71 yrs young, a fairly serious lap swimmer, with a long history of digestive and minor neurological problems. I suspect it’s been having to deal with the digestive disorder since a child with a dairy free + gluten free + low sugar diet with vitamins + minerals + probiotics that’s had something to do with why I can say "minor" when it comes to the neurology problems. I have been treated for each neuro problem independently since the 1970’s. So, my history is a bit different:

[1] Current:
[A] Increasing Visual auras with mild headaches; Topamax 100mg/Seizure medication.
[history:had for over 40+ yrs., originally without headache]
"Incidental" Tremors = from stress [nervous, anxiety, tired, hungry, fever]- as mild as only
affecting voice, chills-like, or can look like a seizure.
Throat spasms – infrequent laryngeal dystonia
[D] Phantom stings on legs + feet = like “no-seeum” bug bites
[E] Esophogeal Dilation for swallowing problems 4/2013
[F] Left ball of foot cramping and toe numbness which comes and goes
[G] Ferritin levels flucuate between 350-500+; Hemotologist Dx: Acute Phase
Reactant = Inflammation - most likely cause: Autoimmune
[F] 23andme – DNA test = ****Increased Risk for MS 2013

[2] History :
[a] Therapuedic vitamins + minerals, Super B’s, D3, Fish Oil = recommended by biomedical
researchers for neuro problems 1970’s [tinging - peripheral neuro]
[b] Feet cramping, difficulty walking in AM, pain, lasted about 8 months 1980’s
[b] Carpel tunnel surgery both hands 1990’s
[c] Nerve entrapment surgery thumb 2010
[d] Falling episodes – balance issues – broken wrist; ankle; fell in shower; trip over curb,
walking in restaurant…etc. [take daily antihistamine for dizziness and allergies]

See...lots of little separate things to treat and then ignore - that's been the history all right! If it does turn out to be MS, I have been very, very, very lucky indeed! When I read some of the stories on here I am embarrassed to even compare my pitiful little complaints. Blessings to all of you!!!!!

How did your MRI go?

And there is no such thing as a pitiful complaint…. your issues are what they are for you, and for you they are the most important thing. No use comparing them to others….. you don't know what they are going through, and they don't know what you are going through.

All we can do is support each other :)

Good luck. Hopefully it will not show anything

nah...tons of people with MS have minor to no problems.

Check out this professional basketball player with MS...

...or this pro hockey goalie...

Nancy Davis has had MS for 22+ years and is just fine...I heard she doesn't do any treatments either....

http://www.erasems.org/nancy-davis-biography/

"She skis, plays tennis, has a black belt in karate, exercises, and travels – living her life to the fullest"

There was a speaker at this year's tykeson conference who had MS for 50+ years with no disability

benign MS is a well known phenomenon. Who do you think beats me in those national MS Society bike races?

Multiple Sclerosis has even been incidentally diagnosed at autopsy with no lifetime history of neurological symptoms

both of these sources mention the phenomenon:

1) http://books.google.com/books?id=TrdFB8 ... sy&f=false

2) http://msj.sagepub.com/content/9/2/204.abstract
