Rebif + Supplements

First-

If it's bad form to do this when I don't personally have MS, my bad, and I sincerely apologize.

However, my bride to be does have RRMS. About a year in. So hopefully that makes this OK.

Is there any known/good reason not to do certain supplements while on rebif?

The few I'm most concerned with are: Vitamin D, Resveritrol, and OPCs. Or, if you know of any others to look into that would also be appreciated.

These three all look like they could possibly offer some benefit (and not just for the MS) but I'd like to know about any potential interaction with the Rebif first. I've seen tons of +'s & a few -'s but it all looks like one huge commercial on both sides.

I realize this should be run past her Neurologist and Pharmacist but I wanted to know if anyone out there has any real experiences they wouldn't mind relating.

Thanks so,

Glyn

Glyn,
It's not bad form at all! Supportive, involved partners are a beautiful thing.

I am not aware of any contraindications with any supplements while on Rebif. The Supplements and Natural Approach forums might be a good place to post your question as well. Jimmylegs could weigh in, I'm sure! Rebif can elevate liver enzymes in some people, and can deplete platelet counts and the like. So I suppose you might keep in mind the effect that certain supplements might have on such things. With MS in mind, I personally take Omega 3-6-9, vitamin E, vitamin D, and gingko biloba. My conservative neuro urged caution about the gingko because not much is known yet about its properties. Hearing his caution, I don't take much. (I listen to, but don't necessarily obey, my doctors!)

Gather info from the doctors, from good naturopaths, from any resource you can--and then make informed decisions. It takes time and energy to do so, and so it is a wonderful way to help your partner with RRMS out and to express your love.

Best of luck.

Glyn, I think it's great that you are so interested in your partner's health. I would've been over the moon to have someone so involved. I am by no means a supplement expert but I have been on Rebif for over 3 years now and I can tell you about the supplements I take. I asked my neuro before starting them. I take a good woman's multivitamin, Omega 3, milk thistle (for liver health), cranberry (for urinary health), turmeric (which is an antioxidant and is supposed to have neuroprotective qualities and also supports liver health ) and lecithin (which supports nervous system health). I honestly have no idea if they are helping but so far I haven't had any ill effects.
