So . . . anybody here work from home?

Hi,

It's been a long time since I last posted, but since I am busy trying to find work at home jobs, I was wondering if anyone else is doing the same? I have found plenty of info on the subject and would be happy to share and discuss it all, if anyone else is curious.

Anyone else looking, or wondering about home based work? It sure comes in handy when MS makes it difficult to work regularly outside the home. But finding the honest and legitimate jobs - that's the challenge. Research is essential and patience is also a prerequisite. Wink

I'd love to hear from anyone who has successfully found home based work.

You might look into editing and proof-reading work, or translation work if you know a second language or if you have expertise in a field such as medicine or science where manuscripts need to be edited with a professional eye. If you have the right experience, you might be able to work as an advisor over the internet to help undergraduate and graduate students work on writing articles, abstracts, theses, and dissertations. Perhaps a local college or high school would want to use you as a tutor in math or some field and you could work with the students over the internet or at your house. Also, if you are good at graphics, you might be able to help put together presentations for people. Getting started and finding the connections is the hard part but you might be able to hook up with a local college and get ideas for some sample work to build up a portfolio of what you can do.

Something that is not work at home but might be possible if you get out to stores occassionally is to be a mystery shopper. You go to stores, probably ones you normally go to, and shop. You then fill out a report over the internet that covers whatever topic you were assigned to research, such as customer service, cleanliness, pricing. I believe you get some benefits such as rebates and maybe some pay. Not sure of how profitable it is but if you're going to the stores anyway, why not?

I googled it for you and found this site. Hope it will help you weed out the illegitimate sites and put you on track to some that pay. I used to earn money on a stock game and they paid well for the top players but they are no longer about. I do know it can be done so good luck.

Good afternoon Melody and Wesley, thanks for your suggestions and for the thread Melody.

I wish I were editor-savvy, but I'm not, although I have an acquaintance, who has been able to find this type of work. Wesley, I have found Craigslist.org to be very helpful. It contains work at home jobs as well as temporary jobs.

Right now, I'm waiting on a temporary job furnished through NTICentral.org, a site, set up to help disabled folks work from home. It is a very tedious procedure. I have been going through the application process since AUGUST, believe it or not. I had to undergo a vigorous background check, which takes 25-28 days to complete. I'm hoping to hear I've been given the all clear signal by the end of this week.

Once approved, I will receive training to work for the IRS as an IRS Order Entry Clerk. I will be trained to take calls on line, send out the necessary info to answer the callers tax questions.

I have found some excellent WAH sites (Work At Home) like www.wah.com. Also, some useful job search engines.

Melody, the sites I have found, have also included SCAM alert sites, that let you know the real job opportunities from the fake. The sites have been a big help, in weeding out the crooks. Wink
