I'm lucky enough to be able to work, which I cherish! I've noticed that a lot of people with MS cannot work, and I'm not looking forward to my turn. Because I work, I make sure to take the Avonex shot on a Friday or Saturday night, just in case it kicks my butt (which is known to happen with me, in this short time).
I just started Avonex, it will be my third shot this weekend... When the MS Clinic I go to got the whole process started, we needed to make sure that PharmaCare would cover me. What they do is cover a portion of the cost, and I cover the rest. Can't remember what the ratio is - but at just over $1500 a month, anything is helpful! It was great to get the PharmaCare approval! Now, because I work I have my own medical coverage also (yay! it actually insures a pre-existing condition!)
When I got to the pharmacy, I hadn't given them my insurance card yet, and after the PharmaCare coverage, my total was just over $700! I was a little worried, to say the least. I asked them to reprocess it using my insurance card - and was happy to the point of tearing up when my total was only $2 - that's right, I said $2! I couldn't believe it!
And - to make things even sweeter, if I go and pick up the box on the first Tuesday of the month, it's 10X Airmiles day - so I get 770! I'll be taking my Europe trip in a year!
Finding out the cost worried me though! I am so lucky that I can work! I can't imagine what it's like for those who are on disability! I really hope that everyone who reads this has good coverage also, because I know there is no way I could afford to do this without mine!
And - on a side note - I hate that stupid injector pen! It's so violent sounding!!!!
