I went and had my hearing tested last week, because for the past year or so I've been having a hard time hearing people, especially at meetings or when I'm outside or on a cell phone. And my husband tells me I always have the TV up too loud.
My mother and grandmother had early onset hearing loss so I figured I should check it out.
My hearing test came back within the normal range. The Dr. said that while my hearing is good, it's possible I have a problem comprehending when there is background noise, and I've realized this is totally the case.
So of course I wonder if this could be an MS thing. I get SO irritable when I can't hear around a background noise!
here is a giant compilation of nutrition abstracts to do with the ear, sorted by nutrient. some of them are not too relevant but some might look worth a read to you.

if you have good hearing and it's how your brain deals with the input, that reminds me of my vision issues last year. i could see perfectly clearly, i just couldn't make it make sense. i'm currently working to correct a zinc deficiency discovered last year. hopefully that will stop those problems from coming back.
I have the exact same issue - I also had a hearing test - normal. The my Neuropsych Prof did some tests and she said it is an 'information overload' issues caused by the ms. When there is more than one source of sound, I get distracted, cannot concentrate on the one sound I am supposed to be, cannot 'hear it', cannot understand it. I get so lost and confused around a lot of people - used to have that typical female skill of being able to listen to one conversation, while participating in another! Gone now... _________________ Ali
