Here's a question for people from the UK,
Having to update a paper License, we find there is a clause where you have to mention if you have an illness which could progress to your inability to drive. How many people have let the DVLA know they are ill, is the information safe from anyone besides them finding out, and does telling them mean you have to have a driving test again?

i know very little about this.. except i had to inform the DVLA after diagnosis who wrote to my doctor and specialist who in turn gave me the ok! I got a 3 year license which I assume after the three years the process is repeated in that they just contact my doctor and specialist again.. i have not been told at any stage that i will need to do more tests... but really, who knows!

I believe ms is a notifiable disease and also that it is an offence not to advise the dvla of it. You should also advise your insurers. In my case, providing that my drs don't advise against driving I'm fine to do so. When I advised/ renewed my insurance it was on the same terms and I was not disadvantaged as regards cover or premiums. The dvla followed the matter up with my gp but nothing further since that initial exchange of correspondence - no 3 year limit in my case. I believe that after the 3 years there is no requirement to pass the test again- just self certification that you are fit and able to drive- obviously taking into account anything your drs advise during that time. You can check this with the dvla. Some info is available online.

I guess we are worried that it would cause a chain reaction...you inform the dvla, they inform the insurance, you never get insurance to drive again, or a mortgage, maybe your work finds out (although they probably know something's up anyhow). Well, we will inform them, then.
