Does anyone do it regularly?

Family and friends are raving about it and keeping suggesting it to me (on the verge of pushing it on me) and I am intrigued. But also nervous about it. I'm not sure if I want someone messing around with my energy/electricity considering I have problems with it already.

I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on it. Smile

You have a point there about messing with your electrical balance. I kill watch batteries, so my electricity is definitely wound weird and probably doesn't need anyone meddling with it.

Proceed with caution.

You crack me up, Lew.
Let a newagey southern Californian explain...
It's an ancient Japanese practice. The practitioner uses their own life force energy to induce healing in the patient. By focusing said energy and moving their arms and hands around the patient's body, without touching the body, only manipulating the energy, the body is brought into balance.

I had a massage recently, and the masseuse finished the session with Reiki...I didn't know it. I had my eyes closed, she wasn't even close to touching me..and I suddenly felt this intense heat at my brow. Really wild! Opened my eyes and her hands were about six inches off my face.

Some people swear by it. I'm a believer. But my husband won't consider it...too wacky for him.

best,
AC

Sounds kinky Laughing . Seriously, Western medicine has spent far too long ingnoring all the "stuff" about the mind/body synergy and has focused solely on the body. There is an article in this months' MSFocus on some sort of imagery technique that is using Eastern techniques. I find that kind of stuff fascinating. I spent waaaayy too much energy in my youth trying to "open my mind" with all sorts of substances, maybe I'll give some of this type of stuff a try now! I have a massage therapist that I go to that has all type of oriental stuff where her table is, so I'll ask if she's familiar with Reiki. I love trying new stuff and it's not like this is going to leave a mark.

About 5 years ago my wife tried about 8 Reiki sessions. It didn't seem to do much one way or the other for her MS although she did say she felt a bit better after each appointment.

After a few months the ordeal of traveling about 45 mins to the therapist's office seemed to negate any benefit Marg was getting so she stopped going.

Carolsue,

It would be interesting to find out the answer to that question. I don't know anyone but me that kills the batteries. Now there are the two of us!

Hello Punchy,
A friend of mine runs two laboratories so she is, like me, a hard-headed, fact-based proponent of the scientific method based on reproducible, measurable empirical evidence.
However, she is also a reiki practitioner and has given me a couple of sessions. I can't say I felt anything in particular but I did see a few colours, (although she had told me I might, so the suggestion was planted).
She lit candles and put on some gentle, new-age type music, (which she refers to as " dolphin fart" music), and the whole experience was extremely calm and relaxing.
In my opinion, coping with the stress of a disease like MS means that anything that gives you respite is a good thing,

Dom,

I was thinking about you on the train today and realised you hadn't posted for while. I must admit I was starting to worry. Glad you are still with us.

I was also getting worried about you Dom. You need to post at least once a day so we know that you are OK.

Thank you for your concern but, disappointingly for some I'm sure, I'm fine.
Many years ago one of my hobbies was composing music and for Christmas I received a couple of programmes which have enabled me to have a stab at improving what I had written.
It's painstaking and time consuming, but I've become absolutely obsessed with it which is why I haven't been posting as much.
Rest assured I'm still lurking in the shadows and plan to get back to being a bit more, "regular", (but I think that's a subject for another thread). If not, I'll just leap out when you're least expecting it and yell, "I'm still alive!",
