I would like to bring to your collective attention the latest webcast by DIRECT-MS. It is entitled Preventing Multiple Sclerosis and is the second in a series of web casts regarding nutrition and Multiple Sclerosis. The focus of the Prevention presentation is how MS can be easily, safely and inexpensively prevented by focusing on protective factors. This is a must see for those people with MS who have children.
Our previous webcast, Nutritional Strategies for Controlling Multiple Sclerosis, addresses similar issues. It presents the probable causes of MS and how to effectively control those elements. A review of the protective factors and how to incorporate them into your lifestyle is also covered.
Thanks, Nick, for this interesting webcast. In France, we're not aware of the importance of supply of vitamin D. As I remember when my sons were babies, there was only one or two supplies of Vit. D under physician prescription, in their first six months of life and not more as Vit. D was considered to be dangerous if overprescribed.
These new notions will certainly modify the attitude of the physicians for the future and will preserve the next generations.
But a question remains in my mind?
What is recommanded for people who are suffering of MS for the present? Is anyone able to answer?
Cheers! (without subburns, of course! )lol.
The most effective internal concentration of vitamin D hormone is 100 to 125 nmol/l. To achieve this serum concentration a daily intake of 4,000 IU/d of supplements or the equivlent in UV exposure is recommended. A combination of both methods is also as effective.
The duration of UV exposure required is highly variable on account of season, ski pigmentation, time of day, altitude, etc. This paperprovides a nice summary of the vit D and MS concept, including doseages.
