I added a link to Dr B Lee's new paper on venous malformation in the replicating studies section....page one post 2 of this thread.

The big links are so numerous now it is hard to keep them organized...that seemed the best location for the new information. Any better ideas let me know.

Dear administrator,

please do update the first post with this document, becauseits a very good and detailed document about dr Haacke's knowledge:

Hi

I looked for the Haacke protocol, and a direct google search on the site (search string was: "pdf site:ms-mri.com" came up with a really great stuff. It looks like it is the detailed description of the Haacke MR protocol with detailed notes, historical connections, even about the processing of the collected data...

thank you

Hi Alex, good research. However, I do not see a name of a contributor of this writing. Or so to say: what validity has this document? By what authority is this written?
It looks quite impressing, but it would have more impact if we know that someone of e.g. dr. Zamboni's or dr. Haacke's team has written this.

Do you know this by any change?

I have just checked Hacke's site and it looks like there is a protocol for 1.5 Tesla also (not just for 3 Tesla)

FYI. On 2 Dec 2009, Haacke's site had an article titled "MR Protocol to Evaluate the Potential CCSVI Explanation of Multiple Sclerosis". At the end of the article there was the following paragraph:
Quote:
More information about the scanning procedure can be found at:
1) MR Parameters
2) Detailed Sequences Description
3) Scanning Procedure
4) Dicoms
5) IRB forms
6) Consent forms
7) Site invitation letter
8) R21 proposal on SWI and CCSVI

The only link that was working at this time, was the link of point 8, i.e. the mentioned protocol. (points 5 to 7 had no link)

Hmm, did the paper I found get snipped on purpose or just get left out in a revision? It's not medical research, but I think it's VERY darn interesting and relevant anyway:

Social constructionism and medical sociology: a study of the vascular theory of multiple sclerosis

http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/fulltext/119454590/PDFSTART

... and from the late 80s!

That link doesn't work (odd cookie error) but this one seems to:

Folks, as reported in the posting http://www.thisisms.com/ftopicp-97519-intelligence.html#97519, it is good to know that Charity Intelligence Canada has, on the basis of its own analysis, recommended to institutional and private donors that CCSVI research in Canada should be a high priority target for donations since it is likely to produce tremendous social and economic dividends.

Perhaps others outside of Canada should bring this to the attention of similar organizations in their own countries, since it would bring CCSVI research to the attention of donors who might otherwise not be aware of the potential value of CCSVI research and intervention.

The Ci report itself can be found at: http://charityintelligence.ca/pdfs/Ci_CCSVI_in_Canada_FINAL_Disclaimer.pdf

Vascular comorbidity is associated with more rapid disability progression in multiple sclerosis

Background: Vascular comorbidity adversely influences health outcomes in several chronic conditions. Vascular comorbidities are common in multiple sclerosis (MS), but their impact on disease severity is unknown. Vascular comorbidities may contribute to the poorly understood heterogeneity in MS disease severity. Treatment of vascular comorbidities may represent an avenue for treating MS.
Methods: A total of 8,983 patients with MS enrolled in the North American Research Committee on Multiple Sclerosis Registry participated in this cohort study. Time from symptom onset or diagnosis until ambulatory disability was compared for patients with or without vascular comorbidities to determine their impact on MS severity. Multivariable proportional hazards models were adjusted for sex, race, age at symptom onset, year of symptom onset, socioeconomic status, and region of residence.
Results: Participants reporting one or more vascular comorbidities at diagnosis had an increased risk of ambulatory disability, and risk increased with the number of vascular conditions reported (hazard ratio [HR]/condition for early gait disability 1.51; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.41–1.61). Vascular comorbidity at any time during the disease course also increased the risk of ambulatory disability (adjusted HR for unilateral walking assistance 1.54; 95% CI 1.44–1.65). The median time between diagnosis and need for ambulatory assistance was 18.8 years in patients without and 12.8 years in patients with vascular comorbidities.
Conclusions: Vascular comorbidity, whether present at symptom onset, diagnosis, or later in the disease course, is associated with a substantially increased risk of disability progression in multiple sclerosis. The impact of treating vascular comorbidities on disease progression deserves investigation.
