I just had my first Tysabri infusion a few weeks ago and I got a bill from the hospital. They are charging my insurance $8, 841 and they are charging me $415.00. Is this correct? From what I've read the cost is $2,500-$4500, this seems like a lot to charge per month. What are others being charged?

I must admit that your charge has hit the highest I've seen reported by Tysabri users on the net. Prior to that it was just over $ 8,000.

The wholesale cost of the drug is about $ 2300.00 per infusion. How any of these infusion centers can charge what you were billed is quite amazing!! Somebody is sure making a handsome profit!

The charge to the insurance co. is probably the unnegotiated rate. Insurance companies usually have a negotiated rate set at the beginning of the year. Since this is the first bill, your insurance will probably submit the negotiated rate and settle things for future bills. Your charges too will most likely be adjusted. This is common based on my experience. Just make sure the amount you are charged is correct in the end.

Also, one time I was charged as an in-home patient and got a ridiculously high bill. Make sure you are being billed correctly.

I just had my 1st infusion & my co-pay was almost $500. Since I only have Medicare & they cover 80% that would put Medicare's negoiated price at $4,500.

Any way you look at it it's quite expensive.

No to one up you, but my Tysabri cost is $9559.45 with an infusion fee (charges for actual infusion) of $659.00. My total monthly bill is $10,218.45. I have a good insurance plan, so overall for a year of treatments, MRI's and Doctors visits (of all kind...) I pay a $2500 deductible.

Understandably I am upbeat even though these numbers are OUTRAGEOUS because it is working for me.... No disability (knocking wood), and all active leisions have cleared....
