Re: Does exercise have any effect on MS exacerbations?

Yeh, I usually use this weird stuff called "L-Carnitine" along with an energy drink. It lets me push farther and harder than I ever could before. Can't be too unhealthy though: I bought it in a health store :) I've given up slightly on my legs though. I do the stationary bike maybe twice a...

Re: Concerning pain medications...

Well, they increased my dosages of Gaba to 1200 every 8 hours. 3600 mg a day. Slightly high, but there's no real side effects to it, are there?
Why do you ask, anyhow? :)

Re: Does exercise have any effect on MS exacerbations?

Sorry I hadn't replied in the past month; I've been working out my medications with my doctor (Betaseron ^_^). I can usually run about 5 miles if I push it. My legs never feel really weak when I run except for the usual muscle fatigue from running. I'll try to get back to running as I haven't been a...

burning. Ah... It used to feel like it was just in my left-leg, but after my last attack, it started to burn below my ribs as well.

Re: Concerning pain medications...

I'm on roughly 2400 mg of Gabapentin, 240 mg of Codeine, 2400 mg of acetaminophen and 2400mg of ibuprofen, daily right now. It seems to work, but it leaves me so strung out, and any less means I'm still in quite a bit of pain. Does Oxycontin do the same?

Why doesn't the pain 'remit' completely?

I have RRMS, and the relapses aren't that common. It's about 1/7-8 months. The problem is that the pain never goes into remission completely. Some of it sticks around, and all they're doing is prescribing me more pain medications to keep it under control. So far they have me on... 600mg of Gabapenti...

Re: Does exercise have any effect on MS exacerbations?

I'll order up some blood work the next time I talk to my doc. They're usually the kind who'll order up several hundreds of tests anyway, so adding an extra 10-20 shouldn't be a bother to em ^_^

Re: Does exercise have any effect on MS exacerbations?

That was originally my motivation for running. I figured I'd better keep my muscles in shape, for I may not be able to in the future. I was once crippled by this disease for a month, and it screwed my muscles up so bad. At least after my last attack, I feel I'm able to get back into running a mere 1...

Re: My doctors prescribed me 1250mg of Predisone?

Yeah. I guess with an autoimmune condition that tanking the immune system would be the solution in extreme cases.
Thanks for the clarification. I was just concerned that I'd not be able to go out. I'll just wear the face-mask though.

Re: Has anyone been bothered by police for public intoxicati

Ah, cheap drunk, huh? I'm always on some amount of painkillers, so drinking seems irrelevant (and dangerous) to me. From Neurontin to Vicodin, I'm always somewhere on a high, and though they still leave me in a bit of pain, I'm active until my leg's less mobile. Even with the cane though, I'm still ...

Does exercise have any effect on MS exacerbations?

I'm getting mixed opinions over the thoughts of MS and exercise. Somebody in my IRL group says that it made their exacerbations a bit more frequent. Others say it makes it less frequent and less severe. I run pretty much whenever I can (Along with some mild strength training 3 times a week), and it ...

Re: Has anyone been bothered by police for public intoxicati

Yeah... I'm thinking of just asking my doctor for a note to carry around with me, or maybe I'll get a tattoo that says "I HAVE MS!" on an easily noticeable part of me, or at least easily exposed part of me, heh. It's not so much the looks and stares; I'm naturally not one to care for my re...

Concerning pain medications...

Does anybody have any thoughts on pain medications? I'm just curious as to which ones work best. My 300mg x 3 a day of gabapentin used to work, but the pain's getting a lot worse, and it's taking more and more, and now I'm up to 600 mg x 3 a day, and the pain still leaks through sometimes. Is there ...

My doctors prescribed me 1250mg of Predisone?

Does that seem right to you? It's a particularly bad exacerbation: I can barely see, I can barely move my legs, I can barely feel my hands and legs except for some excruciating burning, a few others. My usual exacerbation is pretty bad, and the two times I've had MRI's done during them, they've show...

Re: Is it normal to feel this way?

Still alive and kicking. Many thanks to everyone here; you've been a lot of help, and the notebook idea has really helped. I still failed most of my finals last semester, but life goes on. I suppose I might as well continue. To quote a Bon Jovi song, you live for the fight when that's all that you'v...
