Re: How do I buy HSCT treatment?

The stem cells are taken from your own blood, separated out via a machine, then chemo to kill off your immune system, then your stem cells are re-introduced.

The cost of the procedure is less than one year's worth of dmd.

How do I buy HSCT treatment?

I've been googling for an hour. I found the irf website with a list of hospitals in the world that perform the procedure. But do they do it to anyone, as in not in a clinical trial? Is there a place I can just pay for it. (Presumably not in the us because I don't have an endless source of funds.) Ho...

Re: Paralysed man a walks again after pioneering surgery

Just saw this on the nightly ews. The University College professor that pioneered it says 3-5 years for the treatment to get out of the trial phase. He took on of the two olfactory bulbs from the nose/brain and implanted in the break in the spine. The olfactory bulbs are the only part of the nervous...

Re: Confused about gabapentin...

I'm on gabapentin for muscle spasms. I'm not convinced it's doing anything, I find massage is better at dealing with the spasms. The dr told me it would make me feel better over all, stronger and more "upright."

Re: Multiple Sclerosis: MS Treatment 'Breakthrough'

And if it is a real breakthrough and solves it, how long before all the studies are done and we can actually get the treatment?

Re: Sun exposure promotes nitric oxide release

I went back and read the first post - and would tend to disagree with the author's assertion that "until now it was thought that sunlight's only benefit to human health was production of vitamin D, which rises after exposure to the sun." although it is tough to run a search on health bene...

Re: Sun exposure promotes nitric oxide release

Mark, I don't think any lamp exists that doesn't have the risk of skin cancer. I bought a narrow band uvb light because it minimises the chance of skin cancer. Apparently your skin only produces a limited amount of vitamin d, and that limit is reached before your skin changes colour. I don't think m...

Re: Sun exposure promotes nitric oxide release

Narrow band UVb light bulbs do give the full spectrum of rays, I don't think they've created the technology yet to only do narrowband uvb. I've read what they do is to give the light in a greater ratio of narrowband uvb:uvb:ova. What this does is let your skin tolerate a greater dose of the artifici...

Hi Carrie, I had exactly the deep aching legs you're talking about. Physio massage helped a lot.

Re: Sun exposure promotes nitric oxide release

This is why I bought a giant narrow band UBV light. Remember my post a few months ago? You need narrow band UVB, not tanning beds, it's the type used to treat psoriasis and eczema. And you may also remember my post on whether or not the go to a neurologist. I did, and I was given a really great one....

fat and stress

I was wondering about a connection between fat and stress and if there is a known relationship between them. From personal experience I know that I have more problems when stressed and that I respond well to a low fat diet. I did a tiny bit of digging on google scholar and found that elevated oxidat...

The equator

I've just returned from a holiday in Kenya (right near the equator, I even stood on the equator.) After about 7-8 days my symptoms had improved dramatically. On our 2nd day my poor husband ended up having to carry me back to our room after I couldn't walk back from a walk around the hotel grounds. B...

Re: Just diagnosed with MS recently/ frightened and curious.

Hi Donovan, I was diagnosed when I was 19, after a few years of symptoms. So I know exactly what you're going through regarding just starting out your life and feeling like it is ripped from you and you've stepped into a perpetually uncertain state of planning for the future. That was 20 years ago. ...
