Re: My gf of 5 years has MS and I can't take it anymore
Unfortunately, emotional changes like the ones your girlfriend is experiencing is quite common in MS. The good news is that there are effective treatments for these conditions: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Symptoms-Diagnosis/MS-Symptoms/Emotional-Changes Does your girlfriend have a neurologist o...

Re: Gilyena
The info in the FDA link is not a FDA warning. It's actually from Novartis' Gilenya Medication Guide, which has been approved by the FDA. With any medication you take, you should always make sure one is included every time you get a bottle/packet since the information may change. And yes, infections...

Re: Biogen/Novartis Dogfight
Of course Biogen is spending money on advertising ALL of their drugs! But Novartis is spending money on an extensive ad campaign for just Gilenya. From the link: "[T]he drugmaker recently began pushing an aggressive advertising campaign aimed at younger patients and also began sponsoring lunche...

According to the link you posted, it's only Novartis that's spending money on advertising due to the death of a patient last year.

Re: Tysabi PML Risk Clarification Needed
I second CaliReader's post. The Barts and London MS research blog is an excellent resource. Here's is the link to their PML risk education guide: http://www.slideshare.net/gavingiovannoni/barts-the-london-pml-risk-education-guide-june-2013 I gather that your daughter had a significant first attack t...

Re: question
The simple (and more reasonable) answer: The FDA assesses the risk versus the benefits of a given treatment (in this case, prepulsid/cisapride) for a given illness(heartburn). The FDA also considers if there are more safer AND effective treatments available for that illness. According to this articl...

Re: FDA approves harmful ingredients in food, drink
As one study showed, 327 MS patients using Interferon studied over 21 years show a 46.8 % reduction in hazard of mortality over palcebo!! So instead of 10 MS patients dying in any one group, only 6 patients would have died if they took Interferon. And what the heck does this mean when it comes to l...

This is why Mercola's has a beef with the FDA-"FDA Orders Joseph Mercola to Stop Illegal Claims": http://www.quackwatch.com/11Ind/mercola.html From the site: In 2013, Williamette Week reported that Mercola had donated a total of $26,975 in cash and in-kind contributions that included polli...

Avoid salty and sugary foods. Also, ask your neuro if any additional medications and/or supplements that you're taking will interfere with your steroid treatments. I didn't know that the licorice tea I was drinking did until I asked.

Re: FDA approves harmful ingredients in food, drink
The truth is the FDA isn't allowing dangerous chemicals into our food. This is a case of another author trying to create a false controversy in order to sell a book. Big surprise there! To put this video into a less hyperbolic perspective, here are the actual facts about the contested chemical...

Re: Delay Drugs One Year
I BELIEVE IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE TO ADVISE PEOPLE WITH MS NOT TO TAKE A DMD. This needs to shouted out on this site. I'm new but already I've noticed a strong tendency towards pseudoscience on this site. Reminds me of the nonsense anti-vaxxers spout. Maybe we can get Jenny McCarthy to "cure"...

Thank you for the link giddiupgal! This is an interview with Dr. Stephen Miller, who is the study's co-author. I recommend that anyone interested in the news to listen to it. I'm having a hard time seeing how this is radically different from copaxone treatment... The method of action is nothing like...

Re: Multiple Sclerosis: MS Treatment 'Breakthrough'
This isn't a drug, it's a procedure similar to HSCT. And it wasn't done on mice, but nine MS patients. From http://stm.sciencemag.org/content/5/188/188ra75 The aim of this first-in-man trial was to assess the feasibility, safety, and tolerability of a tolerization regimen in MS patients that uses a ...
