Thanks for that link. I have been taking antioxidants and incorporating more in my diet for the past few years. Although it isn't the one referred to in the article, I think they seem to help overall.

I have had very similar occurrences, although not in my hip but in upper extremities. Most frequently my hands. I shock anyone around me when it happens because of the obvious distortion.
