Re: Wahls diet discussion

I'm doing well, but just can't seem to crack this sleep thing, which impacts me negatively. Whenever I sleep well, I feel great. I suspect it's work stress as I have a very supportive family and am happy in that regard. I've tried various adaptogens and think ashwaghanda works a little for me, but t...

Re: Wahls diet discussion

Hi ElliotB that looks like a pure whole foods diet, very positive. It's pretty much what I'm doing, but I eat quite a lot of fruit (berries and oranges), a little rice and sweet potato. I get most of my glycogen from fruits. I go easy on the starch due to persorption: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pub...

Greetings

Hi all, I've posted a couple of messages in another group, but I'd like to introduce myself properly here. I'm a 36 year old male diagnosed 2 years ago with RRMS. When I was initially diagnosed, I ended up spending a week in hospital as I was not in a good way and they wanted to keep me in for obser...

Re: Wahls diet discussion

...and I even think the Swank Diet is very good - the drastic reduction in fats means that polyunsaturated ones are far less likely to cause insulin insensitivity, oxidise in vitro and cause inflammation. If required carbs can metabolise to fats e.g. palmitic acid, mead acid, and the short-chain sat...

Re: Wahls diet discussion

You are right that these 'goitrogenic' foods can be incredibly healthy, however. I was eating an extraordinary amount of raw kale, broccoli, cauliflower etc (over 1kg a day). This I think fried (or iced) me. I now still eat these foods, but I ensure I cook them and not 1kg a day. I eat 200-300g well...

Re: Wahls diet discussion

That is very interesting. The fats from the meats get stored, your body and brain are using the ketones from it for fuel. The brain's primary fuel source is glucose, so this suggests to me that we are inefficient in using glucose for brain fuel. I take ketones in the form of coconut oil, which cuts ...

Re: Wahls diet discussion

It's up and down but to summarise, the only thing holding me back is my sleep and stress. I am much stronger: e.g. at the gym my deadlift has increased from 50kg to 90kg I am sleeping a little bit better, however my job is very stressful and is not helping matters. Cortisol and adrenaline is not hel...

Re: Wahls diet discussion

Hi, I have been on the Wahls Diet for approximately 2 years now. I can say that there are two things wrong with it: 1. She recommends a large amount of raw crucifers/brassicas. These are highly goitrogenic and impair thyroid function. I find this quite contradictory as her diet focuses on providing ...
