Tysabri holiday and IRIS

My daughter hit the 2yr mark on Tysabri and was asked to take a 6mo break. The plan was no treatment for the first 3 months, then an alternative MS treatment for the next 3 months. We were told that something like 2/3 of holiday patients relapse in month 4, hence the reason for some alternative trea...

Daughter's LDN experience

Daughter (diagnosed at age 15) tried LDN after giving up on Beta and Copaxone. Difficult start-up. She had an anti-fungal treatment, worked her way up to 4,5. Her energy improved, as did her resistance to heat. But at the end of 8 months, she felt that a relapse was on its way. We did before and aft...

In addition to more clear reporting about incidences of PML (and thus risk) I'd also like to know how the 19 or so patients who did not die from PML are actually doing. What treatment did they receive for PML compared to how well they are doing?

What is CD4? Is it in the blood? The TOUCH program does not monitor this as far as I know. The TOUCH protocol does not require blood work. It simply keeps track of who is infused where. The TOUCH protocol requires the infusion centers to ask 3 questions of the patient at every infusion; these answers...

antibiotic treatment for teen with mild RRMS

Thank you Sarah, I went to see our GP who just happens to be English, young and cool! (we are a franco-american family living in Tokyo.) I printed out the cover page to your husband's MS-treatment site and asked her if she would be willing to study the site. I mentioned also that she could email wit...

antibiotic treatment for teen with mild RRMS

My 17-yr-old daughter was diagnosed with RRMS 18 months ago. She is on Copaxone now and doing alright. However, I'm much more interested in the CPn ideas relating to MS, as she has asthma too. Is Wheldon's antibiotic regimen a possibility for early RRMS with few symptoms? She takes 100mg of minocycl...

exacerbation?

Thanks everyone for your imput.
I will be taking my daughter to see an MS specialist tomorrow... the only one in the Tokyo area, maybe even in all of Japan. Your comments have helped me compose my list of questions.

what exactly constitutes an exacerbation?

Our neurologist has lead us to believe that only muscle weakness (leading to temporary parallysis) means exacerbation. Numbness, tingling, and other sensory problems--even if they are progressive--don't count for him.

Is this the generally accepted attitude?
thanks,
mother of 16-year-old with MS

John, My 15-year old daughter has been on betaFeron (we're in Japan) for 6 weeks. Her routine: numb injection area with small ice pack while preparing injection. Auto inject does not exist in Japan. At injection time she takes 100-200 mg of ibuprophen and homeopathic granules of Arnica for bruising....

MS symptoms or betaferon side effects?

Hello everyone, My 15-yr old daughter was dx this past Jan and recently started Beta injections (she's only at 1/2 dose). She says that "everything hurts more" like when she gets knocked or pushed or scrapes herself. She also says that her arms and legs feel like they have just had an inte...

Et si on en parlait en français ?

Bonjour batpere,
MS en francais ca donne SEP pour les francais, SP pour nos amis canadiens.
La France, le Canada, la Belgique et la Suisse ont tous des sites SEP...mais nettement moins informatives que ThisIsMS et autres site anglophones.

Greetings from Tokyo

My 15-year-old daughter was recently diagnosed with MS. This was understandably heartbreaking for our family. She has started on Betaferon at the suggestion of our neurologist. Let me point out that a) we are American and don't speak Japanese b) Betaferon is the only disease modifying drug on the ma...
