Re: Natalizumab as a first line of treatment any advice?

Hi, I was also prescribed Tysabri as a first line after my initial diagnosis. I have been on it now for a few months. (Monday will be my 7th infusion). All is well. I am JC negative, so it made the choice easier for me. When I asked my MS specialist why she recommended Tysabri for my first DMD, she ...

Re: Just diagnosed online, alone at home :(

Dairy is hard for me to give up, I love quiche, soufflés, cheese & crackers, sour cream! I'm still not sure why dairy is so bad; is it considered inflammatory? Believe me I know - cheese has been much harder for me to give up than even meat, to be frank. I won't try to replicate Jelinek's resea...

Re: Please tell me all you can about DMDs/DMTs

Thanks Scott1. As many predicted, my neuro gave me a lot of Big Pharma SWAG and recommended Copaxone. At the same time, I'm reading Terry Wahls' boo,k The Wahls Protocol, which makes *big* sense to me! I'm surprised I don't see that book all over MS websites/message boards! Her story on YouTube and...

Re: Just diagnosed online, alone at home :(

kw202 - Thanks for your words of wisdom. Which diet did you choose? What are you supplements and dosages? And what medicine did you choose? I'm trying to get as much information about these topics as possible before I meet with my neuro on Tuesday to discuss next steps/treatment plan. Many thanks! ...

Re: Just diagnosed online, alone at home :(

lyndacarol:kw202: thanks for your good wishes! The LP was not bad, even though I had a rookie doing it. I was numbed up and under fluoroscope so it was OK. My neurologist has dx'd MS and I have complete trust in him. It's a sad day for me, I'm very upset by the "what if's" and just not kn...

Re: Just diagnosed online, alone at home :(

It's true, the O-bands themselves aren't diagnostic of MS. But they are characteristic of MS, one of the handful of things that represent fairly strong evidence. Put together with your other test results, you may be headed toward an MS diagnosis. But that's really for your doctors to interpret. Eith...

Re: Guidelines for dosing: Vit D, B12 and Fish Oil

My first question is: What are your current levels of B12 and D? In order to know what you should be taking, you need have a baseline. Hopefully you've already had these tested. If not, please get them tested before you begin supplementing, so you know where you are. Please don't rely on your doctor...

Re: Spinal Tap Compared to Cortisone Injection in Spine?

Probably they wouldn't mind if you took some kind of light sedative. I had to have someone with me to bring me home after the procedure even without any sedation, and that's usually their request for with a sedative. I didn't have any particular involvement with the LP other than lying there and jab...

Re: Considering Tysabri - questions...

All right, that's done. It wasn't bad, really. In fact it was fine. The nurse got me on the first stick (BLESS YOU). The infusion itself gave me a bit of a head rush-y feeling, but by the time I left the office it had dissipated to a bit of pressure behind my eyes, and that faded soon after. I did f...

Re: Spinal Tap Compared to Cortisone Injection in Spine?

I haven't had both, so I can't really be useful to you in that context - but really, chances are high that your LP will be all right, and you'll be back here posting how it wasn't so bad. If you can, try to talk to the radiology nurse where your procedure will be done, and ask if they use the sprott...

Have you had your D and B12 levels checked? Other tests to rule out MS mimics?

Re: Is a lumbar Puncture *really* necessary for dx?

I posted a response to you on another board so I won't repeat everything I said there, here - but in short, my experience with a puncture wasn't awful. There were a million things I'd have rather done, but it was fine. My puncture was the last piece needed to make my diagnosis. It wasn't very painfu...

Re: Considering Tysabri - questions...

I will! You'll have to try harder to get rid of me. :o

Monday is my first infusion, and I'm a little nervous but mostly because I can be a bit hard to stick (thanks for the rolling veins, dad). Looking forward to getting this going. I'm choosing to view it as shoring up my armor, so I'm ready.

Re: Considering Tysabri - questions...

Hi kw202, We wish you the very best with your choice of Tysabri; but, frankly, I am very concerned – the danger of PML is very real. As I recall reading, PML has even appeared in people who were JCV negative. Thank you! Trust me the PML risk scares me as well, but I scrubbed the literature and so f...

Re: Considering Tysabri - questions...

Hi kw202, If it's not already in your supplement regimen, then you might want to consider adding omega-3 oils from fish oil. You want to aim for about 1-2 g/day of combined DHA and EPA. The brain is about 60% fat and about 30% of the fat in gray matter is DHA. Another excellent suggestion, I do sup...
