Well, I am hoping, and have posted hopes elsewhere that the crabmakers (Lyon, I like that one) will focus more on MS subset response. If we add a t to the end of crab we get CRABT, which doesn't sound so promising so I won't do that. We need another vowel, y'all. I remember my neuro saying in 2004 t...

This is interesting. I'm assuming, since they mention placebo, it is at least a single-blinded study. It looks like from a clinical perspective, nearly two thirds of Tysabri patients met the criteria "disease free" but nearly 40% of the placebo patients also met that criteria. In terms of ...

If anyone was wondering if there is a nice compilation of genetics and MS susceptibility on OMIM, yes there is. It is not as big as the Huntington's disease summary, but there is enough to keep us busy on this topic. All genetic linkage studies on MS ultimately will be linked to this spot. It was la...

Dom, I think I found the papers you are talking about in reference to CAG number in the huntington gene, specifically, the 36 CAGs - your memory is vindicated! Things start getting really strange in the huntington gene when it gets to 36 CAGs. I put statement from OMIM at the bottom of this response...

Hey Dom, I think there is a bit of a correction to what you said - on the 50:50 issue for an autosomal dominant condition - for it, a person has a 50 percent chance of getting the disease gene from the affected parent, You will either get the gene from that parent or you won't, 50:50. If you get the...

Dom I didn't mean to imply I was questioning individual diagnoses in your family or anything along those lines. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have gotten into all that. What I was thinking last night was much more generalized, that if having an intermediate number of CAGs in the huntington gene, which appa...

Twisted, There is no MS I know of in my immediate or extended family, and my extended family is pretty big. I do have a sister diagnosed with Graves disease, and a niece with pediatric lupus, which was severe. I've had a cousin with fibromyalgia. I am curious about the Huntington's in your family, b...

Employment, insurance and disability issues

Is it possible to get this added as a category? People post on this topic in other categories, but threads get buried.

Thanks

Well, you've joined one of those clubs no one wants to join, but welcome. There's been another new poster in the last couple of days asking about insurance, etc., I think his wife was recently diagnosed, and you've got ongoing experience with the Social Security side. You may want to look his post u...

I don't think any of your previous hobbies have yet been associated with developing MS in any published study. However, there is always a first case report that could then trigger more case reports, a case series, perhaps a case control study, and who knows where the arena of MS epidemiology could g...

Hi Larry, You mentioned physical therapy, and there have been some recent articles on the benefits of PT for MS at all stages. It's no cure, but if may help you hang on to what you have or even improve in some functions. There has also been recent studies indicating exercise is at least as beneficia...

Thanks for the reply - I need to look into this more! I often wonder if conditions related to hormonal imbalances make some people more susceptible to MS. You had your problems at a young age, and I was never "right", cycle-wise. I don't know if there has been any epidemiology studies on t...

Hi goofygirl, Welcome to the site. It is very interesting you have done well on Ovestin. I was diagnosed 3.5 years ago and am close in age to you. Interesting, because the only prescription med I take is an oral contraceptive for something unrelated to MS - bad menstrual problems, I'll spare everybo...

Where do you live? If US, what state?

That will make a big difference.....

I agree with you, I think this topic should get its own heading, it is a big issue.
