Disability and FMLA

Has anyone here had to file for FMLA and disability? My company has short- and long-term disability and I can also use FMLA. Anyone with any experience in this arena, could you please message me? Thanks.

Re: Does my husband REALLY have MS?

His main issue is with his foot. Both feet, really, but one causes him more problems than the other. His foot is constantly cramping up on him. It seems to be worse in the evenings, but it can happen during all times of the day. It looks like a terrible charlie horse. I get them too but not to the d...

Re: Does my husband REALLY have MS?

Thank you, Scott and Elliot. I realize that neither RRMS nor PPMS is good to have, but PPMS is the more devastating form, and I worry about his health more than my own. That I know of I've only really had two attacks, per se, although the second one was worse than the first. And it was the MRI after...

Does my husband REALLY have MS?

Good morning. I am writing because my husband is wondering if he actually has MS. He has been formally diagnosed by two neurologists, both of whom are MS specialists. He had one O-band in his spinal fluid along with high protein, and his MRI also revealed "Dawson's Fingers." His first symp...

Re: Question about PPMS diagnosis and disease course

Thanks, Scott. Agreed on the house point. That's what we're going to do. At this point we are in pretty good shape. One of us could get hit by a truck tomorrow and die. Why plan for something we aren't sure will happen?

Re: Question about PPMS diagnosis and disease course

Thanks, David. Yes, this is very helpful. From what you've said, PPMS does fit my husband. He hasn't had any remissions since he started on this ride, but I have. And he's 44--right in the sweet spot for a PPMS diagnosis, unfortunately. Hoping the tests the doctor has requested show something other ...

Re: Question about PPMS diagnosis and disease course

So you’re saying you think I’ve got periformis syndrome AND MS? Well that’s just lovely. Lol. I have had massages before and massage therapists have mentioned tight glutes in the past, but I don’t have sciatica. When I noticed the pain in Mexico was after I got out of a heated pool. A big no-no for ...

Re: Question about PPMS diagnosis and disease course

Also, if it is periformis syndrome, why has it been pretty much absent all winter only to come back with a vengeance when I went to a warmer climate (Mexico) for four days? When I came back to the States things got better again.

Re: Question about PPMS diagnosis and disease course

I don’t have periformis syndrome, Scott, as much as I’d prefer it over MS. I had an EMG and nerve conduction study done in my legs and both tests were completely normal, which means that what I have is a CNS problem and not a peripheral nerve problem. I also do not have spinal stenosis (doctor did M...

Re: Question about PPMS diagnosis and disease course

Ah. I see what you're saying. I don't think anything helps empty it. He doesn't even realize that it's full. I'll suggest that he try that, though. He is able to urinate... He had no idea there was a problem until he had the urodynamic study done. (Although he did have urinary urgency and the need t...

Re: Question about PPMS diagnosis and disease course

An enlarged prostate was ruled out with the irodynamic study. My husband was found to have a neurogenic bladder.

Re: Question about PPMS diagnosis and disease course

Thanks, Why. Scott, I’m not sure what you’re asking. If you’re asking how my husband and I were diagnosed with RRMS initially it was because spinal tap results showed high lymphocyte counts (me, seven years ago, before diagnosis, they were 100%), elevated igG and O-bands (him), “Dawson’s Fingers” le...

Re: Question about PPMS diagnosis and disease course

Hi, Scott. My husband was seeing an MS specialist at Georgetown, but had trouble with his front office staff returning phone calls, so I suggested he see my doctor—also an MS specialist. My neurologist used to be with the National Institutes of Health. I was also evaluated by another doctor at Georg...

Question about PPMS diagnosis and disease course

Hi there. My husband was diagnosed with RRMS last May but now the doctor thinks he has PPMS. My husband is 44. I realize that MS is unpredictable and that everyone's MS is different (I was diagnosed with RRMS in July and we have completely different symptoms), but does anyone know how fast his MS mi...

Ocrevus

Hi there. My husband was diagnosed with RRMS back in May, but now the doctor thinks he may have PPMS. He suggested that we look into Ocrevus. I have been reading about it a little and it sounds scary (could cause cancer, could lead to death), but it's the only MS drug out there that treats PPMS. Any...
