Re: FDA Approved MS Stem Cell Trial Needs Your Help

Thanks for the encouragement and support, folks. Much appreciated. David, for the record, I'm a capitalist also! The pharmaceutical companies do engage in some questionable business practices (bribing doctors, suppressing negative research results), but for the most part they simply do what public c...

FDA Approved MS Stem Cell Trial Needs Your Help

The FDA has so far approved only two MS stem cell trials, and one of them is attempting to fund their research via the crowdfunding site Indiegogo. The Tisch MS Research Center of New York is about to start a 20 person trial using nervous system specific stem cells (derived from mesenchymal stem cel...

Re: Link made to retrovirus Herv-FC1 for RRMS and SPMS

B cells also harbor Epstein-Barr virus in the human body, and EBV has been implicated in the activation of HERVs. It is very likely no coincidence that many of the current DMDs have antiviral properties. There are the interferons, of course, which are extremely antiviral, but also Novantrome, which ...

Re: Link made to retrovirus Herv-FC1 for RRMS and SPMS

Marc May I ask what type of MS you have? As I read this it sounds like it might hold promise for people with RRMS but not for those of us with PPMS. Is that your understanding? Dave Dave-if I do have MS, it's PPMS. However, my disease is so atypical that there is the distinct possibility that it's ...

Re: Link made to retrovirus Herv-FC1 for RRMS and SPMS

I wrote an extensive post on the subject in wheelchair kamikaze several months ago. There is a trial going on in London using an off-the-shelf anti-HIV drug to treat MS patients. About a week after I put up the post, one of the researchers left a comment on it, and I emailed him to thank him. He req...

Re: Tysabri: among them, 665 people have Death.

The statistics supplied by the ehealthme site are almost useless. They don't go into cause of death, which is the key to the matter. We know that there have been roughly 360 patient deaths attributed to PML in people taking Tysabri. The 665 number includes these, but apparently about 300 more deaths...

Re: Affordable Care Act

The affordable care act has absolutely nothing to do with Medicare. Medicare is a government administered program, basically socialized medical insurance. The affordable care act relies on private insurers to cover the vast majority of Americans. This is done by mandating that all Americans with the...

Re: Annette Funicello passes away :(

After seeing the horrendous state she was in in the CTV piece last year, upon hearing news of her death all I could feel was relief. Of course, every death is sad, but the life she was living was no life. MS had reduced her to a brain trapped in a prison of useless flesh and bone. At least now her s...

Re: PREMiSe study results

I am not surprised by these results as the trial did not diaganose all stenoses and only treated stenoses in some areas (neck?). It is not trial size which is the problem but trial methodology. All I have learnt from this report is that you need to find a clinic which uses catheter venography (CV) ...

Re: help .primary progressive multiplescelrosis

Marc, Have you had any experience with LDN? I have read your blog. I love it and I love the photography. Thanks for the kind words about my blog. I have tried LDN, early in my MS career. It really didn't do anything for me. These days, I can't take it, because I am on opioid painkillers due to the ...

Re: help .primary progressive multiplescelrosis

There is one answer for you, it's not CCSVI, it's called HSCT. Hematopoetic stem cell transplant. It's a chemo and stem cell transplant procedure and it's your best bet. It's in phase 3 trials in the US and has been rigorously tested so far. It has a 65% ish success rate in progressive MS. That mig...

Re: help .primary progressive multiplescelrosis

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. PPMS is a difficult disease both on the patient and the people trying to treat it. That said, CCSVI treatment for people with PPMS generally does not result in dramatic improvements. Of course, there are some exceptions, but, as the writer of the popular MS blog w...

Re: The Greek from the D

George and I formed a brotherly bond these last three years, and I am beyond heartbroken. Of course, I'm happy that he is no longer suffering, but I mourn the tragedy that befell him, and for those left behind. I'll miss my Treasured friend for as long as I occupy a place on this earth. I've been tr...

Re: The Greek from the D <tears>

I'm heartbroken. George and I became extremely close over the past three years, forming an almost brotherly bond. I've been attempting to put together a eulogy on Wheelchair kamikaze, but haven't been able to keep it together long enough to put the words to paper. The Greek will be missed for as lon...
