There is not an insurance company in the world that will give someone diagnosed with MS any disability insurance, be it short or long term.
To answer your other question: I was lucky that at age 26 when I was fresh out of school I bought long term disability. Best choice I ever made.

Re: Optic Neuritis
Ah, okay. Both pupils is a different situation. The visual field test will be very helpful in determining what is going on. So often in medical situations there is not on magic test result to point the way to an exact diagnosis, but your docs will do their best. I hope you don't have to join our fam...

Re: Optic Neuritis
When a doc shines a light into your eyes to test for pupil reactions they are looking for an afferent pupillary defect (APD). Having an APD does not automatically mean you have optic neuritis, but with lesions in addition I would certainly find MS to be very likely.

Re: Second opinion
That type of eye pain could be optic neuritis related, but I would doubt it. It should be more consistent throughout your day than just in the morning. Asthenopia is the term we use for eye pain like yours...as in "she has eye pain but heck if I know why". It is very common to have unexpla...

Re: Second opinion
Squidbaby, You said that you were having pain in the mornings in one of your eyes. You were diagnosed with strabismus. Do you have one eye that turns out, or are both eyes turning out? Essentially, I am trying to divine whether or not you have an exotropia (outward turned eye) or an exophoria (both ...

Re: 2nd infusion & confused
I am currently at an infusion center awaiting my 15th infusion of Tysabri. I felt there was zero benefit. For the first 6 months, but over the past 8 months if eel my fatigue is much improved. I still have all the problems I had prior to treatment, but any improvement in fatigue is huge in my opinio...

Re: Optic Neuritis?
Most patients will regain "full" visual recovery with 1 year of an acute ON attack. That being said, it is possible to have damage done to the nerve hat will last. IV steroids should be used in an effort to lessen the duration of your visual deficit. I believe what many eye doctors that do...

Re: Medical Consent for Wavefront Laser Eye Surgery and RR M
I had LASIK 5 years ago and even with my history of optic neuritis there was little concern for having the procedure. Still to my knowledge there is no contraindication to LASIK with a diagnosis of ms in the literature. I think your doc was being very cautious...that is a good trait in a surgeon IMO.

Cooling Vest
Does anyone have a recommendation on a cooling vest? Heat destroys me. I need relief.
I am interested in any brand suggestions you have. Do you wear a vest over or under clothes?
Thanks.

Cooling Vest
Does anyone have advice on a good cooling vest? I am almost certainly going to try one this summer, but I don't want to spend $200 on a bad one.

I was scared to start Tysabri as well, but I had my 1st treatment earlier this month. I am going downhill. Slowly (not slow enough) and surely downhill. I have been on other meds to no avail. So my choices were 1) do nothing 2) take meds that have proven ineffective 3) take Tysabri. What other choic...
