When a doc shines a light into your eyes to test for pupil reactions they are looking for an afferent pupillary defect (APD). Having an APD does not automatically mean you have optic neuritis, but with lesions in addition I would certainly find MS to be very likely.

I had LASIK 5 years ago and even with my history of optic neuritis there was little concern for having the procedure. Still to my knowledge there is no contraindication to LASIK with a diagnosis of ms in the literature. I think your doc was being very cautious...that is a good trait in a surgeon IMO.

I don't think there is a consensus as to a percentage, but it is high for sure. Clinically, when I see a patient with ON between the ages of 16-30 I consider it a pretty big slam dunk for MS until proven otherwise.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a cooling vest? Heat destroys me. I need relief.

I am interested in any brand suggestions you have. Do you wear a vest over or under clothes?

Thanks for the reply! I don't qualify financially for that program which is fine. I really want to see if anyone has any recommendation as to wearing a vest over or under clothing, etc. I am going to post this same thread in the general forums to see if I can drum up some response to it.

Does anyone have advice on a good cooling vest? I am almost certainly going to try one this summer, but I don't want to spend $200 on a bad one.

I was scared to start Tysabri as well, but I had my 1st treatment earlier this month. I am going downhill. Slowly (not slow enough) and surely downhill. I have been on other meds to no avail. IV steroids followed by an oral steroid taper is the preferred treatment. Oral steroids don't have the treatment effect desired when used alone, but they will work well after the IV treatment. I would love to explain this more succinctly, but MS is fogging my brain this morning
