My wife was in the exact same position - hard to know what effect it had - she was well the entire time she was on Metformin. I remember reading elsewhere that Metformin might be positive for MS.

Pioglitazone (Actos/Glustin) - diabetes drug

This is promising - I wonder if they are doing any follow up.

If I were you (and I assume you want to have kids), then I would try and get pregnant straight away.

I remember reading that this drug may also have a neuroprotective role (as well as immunosuppresive) - so that may well be the case.

Interesting that 0.5mg is seemingly more effective - and to think this drug was originally dosed at 5mg (10 times higher!). If 0.25mg is effective, then who knows - even 0.10mg might work.

Agree that the skin cancer is a cause for concern - especially melanoma.

I thought they'd given up on the 5mg dose - and that the 1.25mg was just as effective (with less symptoms)....?

As much as we'd all like to think so, New Zealand is not Australia's seventh state :) New Zealand is a fully fledged sovereign nation, though it appears with a less generous government pharmaceutical scheme. I'm not aware that the Australian PBS requires a specific EDSS prior to Tysabri treatment. O...

For what it's worth, I also agree with the others here. If I were in your position, I would take a multi-vitamin, a good fish oil tablet, and reduce my intake of saturated fats. If you have MS, then the current drugs don't work all that well anyway, and the side-effects are not great.

Am a bit surprised that Tysabri was not shown to outperform the interferons. Not surprised re Copaxone - the Cochrane Group found the same thing a few years ago. In its pivotal double-bind placebo trial, Copaxone just failed to meet statistical significance. I guess the issue with Avonex is the dosa...

I raised this possibility with my wife's neuro, and even mentioned the theory that gout and MS and mutually exclusive. He was pretty dismissive - he commented: "look at who gets gout - older men; look at who gets MS - young women; it's not surprising that people with gout don't have MS". S...

Ah, the irony. The company that leaked a report during the FDA hearings into Tysabri (which purportedly showed that Tysabri gives you the immune system of somebody with full blown AIDS) has now invested in a drug that basically does the same thing as Tysabri (i.e. inhibits VLA-4). It wouldn't surpri...

Hi Seeva - I notice you like to write in CAPITAL LETTERS - can I ask that you please write in lower-case. Generally, the use of capital letters on internet discussion boards is considered "shouting", and aside from that, is generally more difficult to read. Apart from that, best of luck ge...

Is it not the case that you have to have stopped interferons (Rebif, Avonex, etc) for a specified period before taking Tysabri? Not sure what the period is, but I think the reason for it is that interferons linger in your body for a little while after you stop taking them, and it's generally a good ...

How sad that a high dose interferon can't better Copaxone, a drug that failed to reach statistical significance on its own pivotal trial.

If Rebif is just as good as Copaxone, and Copaxone isn't any better than a placebo, then the billions being wasted is just incredible.
