Re: Minocycline

Dr. LuAnn Metz is a professor of Neurology at the University of Calgary. Several years ago she received a grant from the MS Society of Canada to determine whether Minocycline is effective in delaying progression to MS for someone with a first indication of MS, i.e. clinical symptoms combined with po...

Re: Minocycline

Nothing has changed in my condition, but I thought I should share a message I got from Dr. Metz (the Canada neurologist who is conducting the Minocycline trial). Dr. Metz said that one of her patients had previously tried taking 2000 IUs of Vit C daily to combat the grayness that was appearing in he...

Re: Minocycline

I discontinued Minocycline about a year ago after having been on it for almost five years. I was concerned about long term use of an antibiotic and the fact that my teeth and eyes were turning grey, and I developed tinnitus (all potential side effects of Minocycline.) Nothing has changed in my condi...

Re: Minocycline

I have a concern with taking any medication long term if I don't have to, because all medications come with side effects. With antibiotics in particular, one concern is developing antibiotic resistance. Another concern is the Tinnitus, and there there are other potential side effects with Minocyclin...

Re: Minocycline

I have been on Minocycline for about 4 1/2 years now. I started taking it about 5 months after my first and only MS attack. My MRI from 5 years ago clearly show demylination, but there do not seem to be any changes in subsequent MRIs, including one just a few months ago. I have not had another incid...

Re: How can I get Minocycline in the UK?

I had wanted Minocycline for MS but been refused. But I knew that Minocycline is commonly prescribed for Acne. I had a rash on my body and made an appointment with a dermatologist. I asked the dermatologist for a prescription for Minocycline, which he gave me to treat the rash, and fortunately the d...

I would skip the tanning salon and the sun. When I first became concerned with Vit D, I did a little experiment. First I had my Vit D level checked by taking a blood test. Then I sat outside in the sun, during June and July, for about 20-30 min a day around 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Then I tested by bl...

Sometimes it depends on the philosophy of the doctors. In Minnesota, there were some clinics that recommended I start on an Interferon after CIS and some that did not. Those in the latter category reasoned that the Interferon only works 30% of the time, i.e. statistically reduces relapses in large g...

I am in a similar conundrum because I believe that the Minocycline has caused me to develop tinnitus. I have been taking Monocycline for nearly three years and I have been otherwise doing well. I imagine that if I were on one of the standard drugs, the neurologist would assure me that the drug is wo...

Jade, My mom was diagnosed with MS about 30 years ago. Her only symptom during those years has been pain behind one of her eyes. Like you, she has no vision loss, just the pain. In her case it usually happens about 2x per month and lasts 1 - 3 days. My assumption is that she has mylin damage on her ...

The Canadian MS site just posted an update regarding their minocycline trial. Here is the link: www.msanswers.ca/QuestionView.aspx?L=2&QID=2686. The conclusion of their statement was: "Because this is a long trial, it is anticipated that results will not be forthcoming for dissemination for...

I usually eat yogurt for breakfast, about an hour or an hour and a half after taking the mino. I hope that is far enough apart. The drug labeling seems to indicate its OK. As far as whether it has helped me or stopped my progression, it is impossible to know with just one person or a few people tell...

Cojack, I have been taking it for 15 months. I take 100 mg 2 times per day, which is the same as what they were giving in the first Canadian study. My neurologist said he was skeptical it would help, but felt that it wouldn't hurt. I take it an hour before breakfast and an hour before dinner. I have...
