Re: How to taper a medicine?

You should ask a doctor or a pharmacist or any health professional.

But my guess would be lower the dosage because your body learns to expect certain things at certain times.

MRF: Trial Examines Myelin Tolerization of the Immune System

I worry that myelin is not as important as they think, but nonetheless, fingers crossed. http://www.dddmag.com/news/2012/03/trial-examines-myelin-tolerization-immune-system The Myelin Repair Foundation (MRF) announced that its research might soon lead into a clinical proof-of-concept trial at the De...

Re: Multiple sclerosis on the rise in India

bigger market for MS = more money into MS research

or you could look at it as

bigger market for crappy DMDs = less incentive to create something more effective.

the truth is probably muddled between those two.

*obviously that article is terrible, just talking about that region in general

Re: New definition of MS from Mayo, Cleveland, and Yale

Interesting research. I am always glad that the dead-end of auto-immunity is being taken down a peg. However auto-immunity being an incorrect or incomplete answer does nothing whatsoever to support CCSVI research. And it is unfortunate that people continue to perpetuate that false binary and mislead...

Re: breakthrough?

Interesting but not many details. I always wonder how this disease would progress if treated more proactively and with immediate response to relapses and activity.

Re: Updated Forum!

Looks good. Can I throw out a vote for a viral/virus board? There seems to be no shortage of EBV/herpes and MS research coming through. I leave it up to the mods judgement, otherwise I will continue posting in General.

Hey, why not use it on MS patients? They have been trying these types drugs for years based on MS being an auto-immune disease...which has never been proven! Harry By that logic there should be no treatments offered for MS and many other medical conditions in which we do not know the cause with 100...

molecule to block EBV

Sort of think a EBV forum might be useful. http://www.prohealth.com/library/showarticle.cfm?libid=16467 (this is a commercial supplement site - fyi) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21673108 Using molecular mapping of an immune memory cell ‘bio-antenna’ that EBV hijacks for its own ends, a Danish ...

HHV-6 up your nose

http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/333083/title/Common_virus_may_ride_up_nose_to_brain A common virus may slink into the brain through the nose. After setting up shop in people’s nasal mucus, human herpesvirus-6 may travel along olfactory cells right into the brain, researchers report online...

Sounds promising.

I can't even fathom how buried in bias you have to be to see this as evidence of the evil drug companies. I guess buried so deep you think visiting a chiropractor would cure people of a disease that kills them in 3-5 years.

Good article. Excellent graphics.

FWIW the upper part of my throat has been shredded by I'm assuming EBV. And whenever I relapse it itches like crazy.

T-cells reprogrammed to kill cancer cells

Again I think the real progress in MS science is going to come from the ability to manipulate the immune system rather then repress it. Especially encouraging is that this was a human trial. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/breakthrough-cancer-docs-abuzz-lymphoma-treatment/story?id=14283544 By MIKAELA C...

RNA Antivirals - a magic bullet for all viruses

While MS research continues to try and obliterate our immune systems, I have more hope in research like this. http://medicalxpress.com/news/2011-08-drug-viral-infection.html New drug could cure nearly any viral infection Most bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics such as penicillin, d...

It seems like some pretty tame threads are getting locked. Like http://www.thisisms.com/ftopict-17415.html ? Am I missing something?
