Re: Progressive MS

Yikes. I just now saw this thread. Way too late. Jimmylegs, do have any clue how tone deaf you were to Robbie's request? He was asking for a thread where people with progressive MS could discuss relevant daily life issues they have to deal with - not for you to post abstracts of articles which you h...

Re: Post-Zamboni CCSVI

Please remember those who went to Dr. Michael Dake desperately seeking help. Holly/peekaboo, who boarded a plane a day after Dr. Michael Dake's procedure, and didn't wake up, due to a brain hemorrhagic stroke. Oliver Zahn who had to undergo open-heart surgery, thanks due to Dake's stent migrating st...

Re: Dayton Interventional Radiology

If you're willing to give them your money, they will probably take it. Before doing that, look up those who decided to see Dr. Dake, Arata, McGuckin, etc.

Re: Notes from CureIous' at Stanford

Just so you know, the great Dr. Michael Dake has moved on from Stanford: https://uahs.arizona.edu/senior-vice-president-health-sciences/Michael-Dake https://uanews.arizona.edu/story/michael-d-dake-appointed-senior-vp-health-sciences Perhaps he was chased away by those neurologists who dared question...

Re: Hello from Canada, eh!

The amount of woo and pseudo-science here (despite being regularly challenged, thank you to those that challenge it) sure makes it seem like this is not the place for me. Does anyone know of any science-based MS forums that have reputable information? Not MS World... Hi Misslux: As you can probably...

Re: Two patients sue for harm caused by unproven MS

You missed the point. These case studies show that stent migration beyond "weeks of the procedure" is not an unfounded nor "unnecessary" concern. The conjecture or "incorrect fiction" was in assuming this couldn't happen. No, I didn't miss the point. You can always get...

Re: Two patients sue for harm caused by unproven MS

I would imagine the various results of this kind of surgery are going to depend on who is doing the surgery. Good surgeon, good results. Not so good surgeon, not so good results. Harry You missed the point. These case studies show that stent migration beyond "weeks of the procedure" is no...

Re: Two patients sue for harm caused by unproven MS

The stents also cause chronic pain, sleeping problems, and lingering fear that others will become blocked or migrate to his heart – potentially fatal complications The fear of migration is an unnecessary fear after the stent has endothelized into the vein, which happens within weeks of the procedur...

Re: Sodium buildup in brain linked to disability in multiple

So now MS is a venous disease of the kidneys ? 8O http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/yourkidneys/ Yep, it has nothing to do with the central nervous system. I bet this is just a marker of neurodegeneration. That's pretty much the conclusion of the authors of this study. They and the refere...

Re: Sodium buildup in brain linked to disability in multiple

Sodium ions are released in edema, Mark---it's a scientific fact. Found in venous congestion in the legs, liver, kidneys. Why not in the brain? It's part of the renin-angiotensis system. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7143701 Except the article you cite talks about Na+ leaking into the blood (i...

Re: Husband of an MS patient

Dave,

As you can probably tell, you're probably not going to get a whole lot of useful advice here (other than lyndacarol's practical advice). Maybe you can contact your local chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society; they might have some services that can help.

John,

Avonex is not your only choice for a DMD. For example, there's also Copaxone, which is not associated with the flu-like side effects of the interferons.

Re: Your thoughts on my dx journey?

Brad, Many doctors are getting away from using an LP to diagnose MS, since it may not show anything in about 15% of cases. I never had one, and a number of neurologists I asked said it wasn't necessary. (Of course, sometimes I do wonder if this additional piece of information would have been nice to...
