It's great that dignan's posts have kept this thread alive. Now at least it's clear that Prineas et al are questioning both autoimmunity and Lucchinetti's theory. Interesting.

dignan, thanks for sharing the abstract with the rest of us. I found its subject very interesting. By coincidence, a dear friend of mine sent me the full article of the same study few days ago, and thus gave me a good reason to visit this thread again. I think this abstract sounds interesting, altho...

Sharon, thank you for making my day :-)

It is really great to see this old thread getting bumped up again, and I appreciate your feedback very much.

Thanks for sharing Dr Cohen's presentation, too. It was good.

Be well.

This is good news! Thanks for sharing it, Ian. Actually, it gives me an excuse to show this impressive graph illustrating the lack of relapses in the previous Canadian minocycline trial (a triangle means a relapse). During the last 18 months none of the patients had any relapses: http://img181.image...

Dom, like the study behind Frank's link shows, it is stressful for both mice and men to face an unknown and aggressive male. But what comes to interferon-gamma, there might be a difference between the two species. Back in the 80s researchers were able to cure EAE mice with interferon-gamma, but in h...

Boy, it was a long post. Have you concidered running for politics?

Btw, maybe instead of "plasticity" it might be better to use the term "regenerative potential" more often in your hypothesis. Or did I get it wrong?

Bob, I like to think that I would agree with bromley and Raven in that the risk of ITP and Grave's disease are acceptable risks when compared to the other treatments currently offered. Yes. It is wise to compare possible risks vs. benefits of a drug treatment. Like Dr. Agnell said in an interview: ...

Bob, That's one of the reasons I'm cautiously optomistic about Campath. Something which is supposed to be alleviating the total immune system should alleviate all the autoimmune diseases and NEVER increase the risk of another autoimmune disease. In case you didn't know, in 2005 the Campath trial wa...

Good question, Frank. IMO, the study setting seems to have been biased towards autoimmune theory. In any case, I personally don't think this study will make that much difference.

Bob,

Since I got you confused, I must have used the phrase the wrong way. What I meant was that
  • when there is inflammation, there is also neurodegeneration.
  • there can be neurodegeneration without inflammation.
I hope this clarifies the way I see it.

Dom,

I'm glad I could be of help. I always enjoy reading your posts, but to tell you the truth, the line spacing was a bit disturbing.
