Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

Also, please provide evidence of (major) MS advocacy association executives enriching themselves at the expense of pwMS. This is a frequent accusation, but to my knowledge it is baseless. As someone who makes yearly contributions to NMSS and sometimes other MS organizations, I'd like to know if you...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

Ummm...I wouldn't call it "self-policing." GSK did not want to publicize this, but bloggers in China did, after a whistle blower exposed them on June 4th. Then, GSK had to come forward with their investigation. Here's the Chinese blog: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=zh...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

Since big pharma has a history of corruption and provides the data given to the FDA, I don't trust at all their trial results nor anything else they have to say. Big pharma and MS advocacy association executives and DMD-prescribing neurologists are too tightly knit and enrich themselves at the expe...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

The trial objective was "Correcting CCSVI in MS." Correcting CCSVI is measured by improving VHISS (venous insufficiency severity score) scores. This was a trial endpoint, and it was not met. BNAC phase 2 DID NOT improve VHISS scores in the poor people who were treated. They went from 6 to...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

This is where I disagree. The stated objective of the study was "To investigate the safety and efficacy of percutaneous transluminal venous angioplasty (PTVA) for correcting CCSVI in MS in the setting of a prospective, double-blind, sham-controlled, randomized pilot trial". Specifically, ...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

If we remove all claims of bias, all insinuations, all MS outliers, everything...all the word salad. We're still left with this fact. Phase 2 patients did not have their CCSVI corrected any better than the placebo patients. The Venous Insufficiency Severity Scores were the same for treated and untr...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

ScutFarkus I see you use the mindset to discredit anything that I ask rather than see that there is logic in what I ask. OK, fine, I give up. I was sincerely trying to be helpful in my reply to your post, and I thought the tone was friendly, but it's clear that what we have here is a failure to com...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

Thanks all, I do understand the outcomes, my point has always been the same, WHY design a trial the way they have? :) The trial design is very typical for evaluating a medical intervention, as far as I can tell. You might check out a few other published medical trial results, and I think you'll see...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

I think Dr. Embry's anger may come from the fact his charity gave $125,000 to PREMiSe, Interesting. So, had the results been positive, I assume we'd have to accuse the researchers of blatant pro-CCSVI bias due to all that cash from "big-CCSVI". I jest, of course! and as we've noted:...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

This is all that matters. Restoration of venous outflow compared to baseline and improved VHISS. It is a scientific measurement. It is a quantifiable measurement. And it was not acheived in phase 2. cheer Let me see if I can clarify this issue. Very well clarified! I agree with Squeakycat's summary...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

It's actually not that complicated. The poster contains the answer. The pwMS who were treated in phase 1 received a venous return of > or equal to 75% after 6 months. The pwMS who were treated in phase 2 (the blinded arm) received treatment which allowed them a venous return of no more than 50%. Ho...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

If you look at the Psychology in this BNAC trial it opens up the picture of what has transpired. If there was a preconceived outcome, an assumption, then the study design 'should have' the outcome in mind. The design of the study will have the required bias and the outcome 'should' be as assumed. I...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

I think you're overstating their conclusion a bit. I don't think it is an overstatement in the context of the video and press release and certainly not in terms of how those pronouncement were then spun by those writing about the study. OK, I can buy that. I'll admit I haven't actually watched the ...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

What we have here is one study, where the authors conclude that CCSVI treatment should only be undertaken as part of a clinical trial. I believe Zamboni himself makes exactly the same recommendation. /Scut Agree completely with your criticism of Embry for cherry picking and the issues you are raisi...

Re: Embry: Actual data from PREMiSe suggests CCSVI is of val

Active MS is one of the most impossible states of this disease to predict, timing the 'regular' relapsers so that you can treat when in the worst inflammatory cycle is an interesting ploy! It is typical for MS clinical trials to have recent disease activity as an enrollment criteria. The reason is ...
