Re: My experience with Avonex

The natural course of MS would have brought me to the same point or maybe slightly worse. In this regard, Avonex probably did not do much for me. Is this a neuro's opinion here? I am an Avonex user and have seen slow progression as well. But my opinion is that Avonex has helped this from being much...

CA Insurance costs

Karen, I live in TX, but I work for a small CA company, and end up with a BC/BS small company CA plan. I take Avonex, and under BC/BS, now I pay $402 for 4 syringes. I would love to hear if someone on BC/BS gets this "self injectable " for less out of pocket cost. For me this is a fancy mo...

What a great discussion.......

Karen G, you are a great writer, and a great thinker. I appreciate your comments and the comments of others posted here. I too struggle with this very thing every week. I was dx'd almost two years ago. I made the decision to tell very few people, maybe more out of pride than anything. I don't have v...

Kareng7,
I too am on the high side, ($386) thru Direct Delivery. I am on a BC/BS plan.

I'd love to hear which insurance company JDamon has! I don't think I qualify for anything less (not a Veteran etc.). Anybody on BC/BS with low cost for Avonex???????

"Like most MS drugs............"

Wow Flora, What a catch on that original post. Your comment made me pull out the folded fine print that comes with my Avonex injections to see if PML is mentioned anywhere. I couldn't find it mentioned, but maybe someone else with a longer attention span might see it. I have to say, I was encouraged...

I agree - Both need visability!

Dear One Eye, I agree, I wish that MS had broader awareness and understanding. I think it would help us all. I don't know what you meant by "it affects alot more people", and it made me wonder where MS ranks on the affected list, so I went to check. Right now there are slightly over 2 mill...

Presentation Link

Deb, Thanks for the presentation link. I had not been to that site before, so I found the information sobering, but well presented about the possibility of "Benign MS". Better to know that in advance. I'm an Avonex-er, so I was surprised to see the comparative data between the Betaseron an...

Protocol response

Great question. I look forward to the other responses.
My answer - none. I've been on Avonex for 8 months.

You didn't mention your answer!

I do think that adjanimals has a great point. The answer may be clearer if your symptoms are obvious. The challenge in my case is that I have no current visable symptoms. My choice; 1. I haven't told very many people. I have a career issue, so I have not said anything to anyone even remotely related...

Wow! Congratulations to all of you that have replied. I'm glad to know that several of you are able to get Avonex at a very low cost. I'm not, but God has provided some financial means for me. And unfortunately, one of you is worse off than I. I would have guessed when starting this that most would ...

Cleo, I can't agree more with your concern. I am just starting the search for such insurance, so anything of value that can be contributed here will be of great value, no doubt. I work for a company that does not provide either disability insurance nor retirement benefits (insurance), so this is par...

Avonex Cost

I'm sure that with all the great knowledge that exists in this community, someone has found a lower cost way to get Avonex. Currently I get it from the direct delivery source. I am fortunate to have a good portion covered by health insurance, but still pay a hefty amount per month (like a car paymen...

Need advice on telling others

I would really appreciate comments on what others have found both successful and unsuccessful in terms of telling others. I have specific "fears" about any info on this getting to my current employer before I'm ready to address that. But I also find that my family members (older brothers a...
