Spring
With the exception of this week, this winter has been wonderful for me. I dread the return of spring because I had such a horrible spring/summer last year (my first), that I fear the warmer temps will bring back more symptoms, including seasonal allergies thrown in just for fun!

Sleep apnea
I have a rather severe case of mixed (both obstructive and central) sleep apnea. On my sleep study, I had 97 apneic episodes recorded per hour. I've been on bipap for the last three to four years (after refusing to have a sleep study for many years) and it really made a huge difference for me. It to...

MS and memory loss
One of the most frustrating aspects of my journey thus far has been the cognitive/memory challenges that I am facing in my day-to-day life. Today, my mother came over to help me clean out/organize my garage. As we are going through the boxes, I find the box that has the Christmas gift I bought for h...

Articles
Thank you for posting those articles, why and cheerleader. I am currently in diagnosis limbo and, as a former contact sport athlete who has seen more than her share of concussions, I am going to request that my spinal fluid is tested for those proteins as well.

Nerve regeneration in mice
I saw some of this recently while visiting research labs at Cornell University. It's actually pretty amazing stuff. There's a lab a Stanford (Will Talbot's lab) that is working with nerve remyelination in zebra fish. Alas, we're still at least a decade and a half away from seeing it approved in huma...

Great advice, Blue! On the recommendation of one of my providers, I bought the "memoryMinder" (now called the "HealthMinder", I believe) journal so that I could log all of my symptoms, food intake, medicines, hours slept, naps, etc. in one central location. It also has a place to...

Demyelination research
I was at a neurobiology lunch lecture today at Cornell University (yes, I really AM that much of a geek!) and I was asking the professor in question (who worked with zebrafish and neuron regeneration) if he has done any work with demyelination processes. He told me that there is a scientist at Stanf...

Fish Oil Supplements
One thing I learned about fish oil supplements this week is to make sure that you read the label and that they are "filtered". If it doesn't say, call the 800 number on the bottle and ask. If they are not filtered, they contain all of the mercury and other toxic ingredients that, unfortuna...

Det books
Have you looked at anything by Dr. Andrew Weill? I consulted with my nutritionist yesterday and she printed out his "anti-inflammatory" food pyramid. I know he's had a lot of books out about diet and the affects of certain foods - perhaps you could check a couple of books out at your local...

Diets
I'm starting to look at the different diets myself. I met with a nutritionist yesterday and talked with her about different diets. I'd caution you to stay clear of any diets that offer to "cure" your disease. I just ordered a new book from amazon.com yesterday that had 75 recipes for MS pa...

Hello ;o)
Hi! I'm Jenn from upstate NY. I've been going through my neurological workup for the past six weeks with MS on the differential diagnosis list, despite a negative brain and c-spine/thoracic MRI. I am having visual and auditory evoked potentials done on Tuesday. When my MRIs returned negative along w...

You didn't say where on Cape Cod you are but if you want to get out, go into the car with the AC and drive up to the Christmas Tree Shops (it's not Christmas stuff, like you'd think). There's a big one in Orleans and it has AC. You don't have to go for long, but you'd feel better than sitting in the...

Fired by doctor
Kathryn, I'm sorry that this happened to you. However, there are some things that you should know (I previously worked in healthcare risk management - so I have seen this before). Firstly, you're doctor can't immediately terminate his relationship with you. He needs to do so in writing , preferably ...
