Re: 2 Years Post HSCT And MS Still Stopped

It's been a long time since I've been in this wonderful TIMS forum (I often direct others to this forum) and am sorry I have been busy with other things, like living my life without MS. I just wanted to post a quick update of my post-HSCT status now that I've hit 6 years after my transplant and rema...

Re: Dr Burt and waiting forever

Every drug and/or medical procedure in the US must go through the same steps to become approved by the FDA in the United States. However, not every application will take the same time. The time is strongly dependent upon how long it takes to establish the measured clinical outcome as originally defi...

Re: Hsct and fundraising.

Just a last note on the positive side that you can discuss with your own accountant. . . . HSCT is completely tax deductable (both Federal and State) here in the US, including if you seek treatment overseas at a less expensive facility.

Good luck and best wishes!

Re: Hsct and fundraising.

Shucks, I'm glad to see, and I find it encouraging, that you are focused on this subject (which means you are taking a proactive approach to beating your MS). Damn, I wish HSCT were not such an expensive procedure! C'est la vie. My wife and I wre fortunate that we had enough savings to cover the cos...

Re: 2 Years Post HSCT And MS Still Stopped

BTW Lib. . . . good posting of that report. Very relevant data. When you ask "Could it be that results vary significantly among hospitals?," The answer is "not really." The overwhelming factor here that accounts for the variation of the patient clinical outcomes over time is the ...

Re: 2 Years Post HSCT And MS Still Stopped

Sorry, I just wanted to share a posting that was entered today on our HSCT FB forum. Because these are comments made by an individual that received HSCT outside of a controlled study, this does not specifically translate to any other individual. I'm really just sharing this to show "what's poss...

Re: Adult Stem Cell Therapy - in Texas!

Hi Jibibe. . . thanks for posting that information about Celltex. (I especially enjoyed reading the Knoepfler Lab Stem Cell Blog.) Mainly you bring up an excellent point regarding the legality of what Celltex is doing in the United States. The US Federal Government has reserved to sole right to regu...

Re: Adult Stem Cell Therapy - in Texas!

Hi Lib, First off. . . . your English is so damn good I actually could think you are an english teacher! And the great point you have made about probability. . . . . just like everything in nature (and medicine), there are no certainties. Just probabilities. So you're right about the fact that it is...

Re: Adult Stem Cell Therapy - in Texas!

I don't mean to butt in here and interrupt the good flow of dialogue. Just wanted to add a couple of additional comments. Although still quite unproven I am happy to see the Celltex MSC therapy available for those that wish to receive the treatment (I might even consider it for myself). The in-vitro...

Re: Anyone taken stem cell therapy for ms

Thanks george for the info....Want to take the therapy but I am wondering abt the cost factor....and yes I went through your post....but still wondering if the cost could be lesser...this is a very expensive disease ;0 I can completely understand the cost factor being a tall hurdle, as it is for mo...

Except that immune dysfunction has already been scientifically proved as the root of MS pathology, regardless of the funding source to develop the data: Researchers publish results settling multiple sclerosis debate "This work is significant because for the first time we are able to definitivel...

Re: Anyone taken stem cell therapy for ms

Hi Munish, Have you had that therapy? I am from Bangalore and have RRMS.. Hi Kunal. . . As of today (July 10, 2012) Dr. Rauthan at Manipal has completed HSCT treatment for three MS patients (all from the US) and is currently treating one MS'er (from Canada). I beleive he has more patients scheduled...

Re: Rebooting Immune System at Johns Hopkins

My understanding of it is the cancers were much more prevalent in the people who were on the pulse administration though. Was I told wrong? I don't know anything about that (pulse vs. non pulse administration secondary malignancy occurence data). I do know that cyclophosphamide was originally devel...

Re: Rebooting Immune System at Johns Hopkins

The one reason they use Cyclophosphamide is the biggest risk is bladder cancer and when Mesna is used to coat the bladder it protects well. I was told for the four days of chemo, it's no different if you had a spoonful of it or a two litter bottle. Plus it's out of your system within 48 hours this ...

Re: Rebooting Immune System at Johns Hopkins

Thanks George, As usual you have investigated all options with much detail. I think the best hope in my view is HSCT prior to becoming progressive, but it will be a while before it is accepted treatment availabe to all. Edit: After thinking about what you wrote about these agents, it seems it might...
