Re: Estriol

:-D Here I am beating the drum. In light of the news about estriol (a very long time coming) I want to bump the thread. Here’s a link to the news release from the NIH Preliminary Results Show Improvement in MS Symptoms (One has to wonder why they don’t identify estriol in the title???) Combining the...

Re: Female hormone estriol, combined with Copaxone, reduces

Hi Kronk It has been shown that estrogen and specifically estriol increases MS issues in Men. Do you happen to have a link to that research or study? I was just about to post the link below in the estriol thread in the regimens section but it looks like you've found in person (rather than mice resea...

Re: Is perimenopause making my ms symptoms worse?

Hi Erika Thanks for keeping us posted on your status. Sorry about the nerve pain and burning in your arms and I'm wondering if you've tried alpha lipoic acid (a supplement)?? When I was first diagnosed I had burning, tingling and numbness of my feet/lower legs, a pharmacist recommended alpha lipoic ...

IJV Blood Flow Linked to Disability

Hi all Came across this study of 58 people with MS and 13 healthy controls that found an association between IJV blood flow (wash out rate) and disability levels. Internal Jugular Vein Blood Flow in Multiple Sclerosis Patients and Matched Controls (full article available) From the abstract: A signif...

Re: Symptoms worse during menstruation?!

Hi Jevoni Based upon the info I've read, it doesn't seem like it's "normal" for symptoms to get temporarily worse during the menstrual cycle, but it certainly isn't unusual either given the little bit of research that's been done on the topic. Here's some of the research: The premenstrual period and...

Testosterone and Neuroprotection

An interesting article on Pub Med today re: testosterone. Neuroprotective Effects of Testosterone full article available. Highlights of the article: Ten men with MS were observed by MRI before and after testosterone treatment. VBM demonstrated an arrest of gray matter atrophy as the result of treatm...

Re: LOMS>late onset MS

Hi I was diagnosed with RRMS over 10 years ago at the age of 57. I had difficulty walking (ataxic and slow gait) and burning and numbness of the feet and legs. Alpha lipoic acid took care of the burning and numbness. I'd had difficulty walking 3 years earlier (age 54) and after numerous work ups by ...

Re: Is perimenopause making my ms symptoms worse?

Erika I am so sorry you are having all those symptoms. Has your physician checked your thyroid levels? Some of the symptoms you listed could also be MS related but some could also be related to thyroid issues--at least my reading suggests that's a possibility. Unfortunately the only place I'm aware ...

Re: Is perimenopause making my ms symptoms worse?

Erika I am so sorry you are having a rough go of it and I'm pleased others are providing input. I wanted to add that I'm not certain what you mean by "gestagens"--other than I think it's a form of progesterone. In my reading it seems "natural" or "bioidentical progesterones" may be the best alternat...

Re: Is perimenopause making my ms symptoms worse?

Erika So good to see you post again but sorry you’re having a rough go of it at the moment. I had saliva hormone testing done by: ZRT Labs . If you scroll down the page you’ll see a link to a pdf “symptom checklist” to help you/your doctor decide which tests may be appropriate. I was very pleased wi...

Re: natural hormone cream

Hi Sue Hopefully you'll have some luck getting Pro-Gest. I'm not so sure we're more forward thinking than France or England about menopause, although I certainly don't know. I've read that estriol is prescribed in Europe for menopause, and it's not generally prescribed here. And, some of the lead re...

Re: natural hormone cream

Hi Sue I was diagnosed after they took me off HRT during the big "scare" years (over 10 years ago) so I too am of the impression menopause made my symptoms worse. If it's at all possible I would recommend that you have your "free" hormone levels tested (estradiol, progesterone, DHEA, testosterone, c...

Re: Shingles Vaccine ???

Euphonia Thanks so much for the link to all that info about the shingles vaccine. It is a comprehensive overview and puts it into some perspective. I'm still "considering" it. Thanks for the "good luck" wishes. If I plunge ahead I'll be sure to let everyone know what happens.... All the best to you ...

Thanks for the info Nellie. I'm thinking I'm going to probably go ahead and get it--just need to get my nerve up a bit more.

Thanks again.

Shingles Vaccine ???

Hi I hope all of us oldies but goodies are doing well. A couple of my friends recently had shingles and I'm wondering if any of you had the shingles vaccine, and, if so, how did it go? My neuro says to go ahead and get one but I've been a little hesitant because it's a live virus (and appare...
