Re: atlas compression of IJV
The Cutting balloon device is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for dilatation of stenoses (atherotomy) in coronary arteries in which a lesion has proven resistant to a high-pressure balloon. The manufacturer (Interventional Technologies) recommends that the coronary artery ...

Re: atlas compression of IJV
Should add that I had TWO problems with the right IJV. One was the bone spur impinging on the IJV, and second [unbeknownst to me prior to the venoplasty], was the very tough nature of the vein wall stenosis. Donnchadh And this is vein wall stenosis, not the valvular stenosis that we are more often ...

Dr. Sclafani:
Have you ever used a cutting balloon catheter on a venous stenosis? Or know someone else who has?
Results, whether good or bad?

Re: atlas compression of IJV
UPDATE: The venoplasty on the right IJV was completely unsuccessful. The neurosurgeon had to use 4 different size balloons in order to open up the stenosis. And the balloon was so over inflated that it was starting to leak. While resting post-op [basically to ensure no bleeding at the groin entry po...

Re: atlas compression of IJV
The venoplasty on the right IJV has been scheduled for Monday 16 December! The hospital called and gave me the date on very short notice and everything just clicked. My PCP got me in and gave his pre-op checkover and approval. Because this date was within the 30 day window from the last procedure, I...

Re: CCSV!: Three Treatment Options
Hello Donnchadh: Sorry for the gender inaccuracy. People use code names and yours was unclear to me. Also, thanks for the clarification. You are lucky to have found competent Doctors willing to listen. Are you in the United States or elsewhere? Vesta No problem. Few people have actually heard Irish...

Re: atlas compression of IJV
What a story, D! Thank you for sharing your diagnostic and treatment process with all of us. Any chance someone in your treating/diagnostic team can write up a paper for a journal submission? Getting these cases documented and shared can only be of service to others who may have similar issues, and...

Re: atlas compression of IJV
The post-op office visit was instructive. Turns out that the IJV was flattened against a bony knob on the Atlas; in addition it was also thethered to it. The neurosurgeon removed [ground by diamond drill] this and the IJV is now completely free. The next step is to have a venoplasty to break up the ...

Re: atlas compression of IJV
The procedure went well with no complications. My "hunch" turned out to be correct-there was a bone spur on the right hand side of the C1 atlas vertebrae which was compressing the IJV. The neurosurgeon followed the right IJV up from the horizental incision [which was about halfway between ...
