Re: 2 Years Post HSCT And MS Still Stopped
"sometimes" (a small minority of cases) treated patients with RRMS have a MS-relapse following treatment which is then quickly put into remission with additional doses of cyclophosphamide infusions post-HSCT. George, I'm curious about this relapse. Does it always happen immediately after ...

Re: Newly Diagnosed: Torn between treatment options. Help?
Hi, im kind of in the same boat as you in that I first tried other approaches. I have had some success but I have decided to go on Copaxone as well as to continue on with alternative approaches. This paper helped me make this decision: http://www.jhasin.com/files/articlefiles/pdf/ASM_9_2_p37_41.pdf ...

Re: Recruitment starts on Multiple Sclerosis hookworm trial
I think there is a lot of validity to this therapy. It seems that people that have MS have a defect in a certain type of immune cell that regulates the immune system and prevents autoimmunity. These cells are known as regulatory Tcells or Tregs, and express a certain protein called FoxP3: http://www...

For clarification... Gray Matter: Those regions of the brain and spinal cord that are made up primarily of the cell bodies and dendrites of nerve cells rather than myelinated axons. NHE To be clearer, from John Hopkins Advanced Studies in Medicine: http://www.jhasin.com/files/articlefiles/pdf/ASM_9...

Re: Stem Cell Rejuvenation Center in Phoenix Arizona
I guess my point is that if one were to pursue MSC cell transplantation (which I don't believe is a valid treatment at this point in time) to repair existing damage caused by MS, you must be certain that the disease progression is stopped first. Otherwise any benefit you would hope to see from the M...

Re: Stem Cell Rejuvenation Center in Phoenix Arizona
Neurologists told me that currently they believe that in spms and ppms autoimmunity is not the primary culprit, eventhogh if it is there. Probably, this is the reason why they do not give any immunmodulatory drugs for ppms patients. I often hear this a lot on this site. But lets look at a Nueron: h...

Re: 2 Years Post HSCT And MS Still Stopped
Hope you get relief CV. I think it is important to remind those considering HSCT,especially if specifically interested in the BEAM protocol that showing a history of using an immunomodulator type drug can be critical if not absolutely essential in being deemed a candidate. The drug therapy should s...

Re: 2 Years Post HSCT And MS Still Stopped
Is there a difference in the time spent in the hospital? From the graph it seems like immune system recovery is slightly better with the non-myeoblative but im not sure this translates into a shorter stay. At any rate I think I would rather stay a little longer in the hospital if it ensures a more c...

Re: 2 Years Post HSCT And MS Still Stopped
For the non-myeoblative procedure, what is the recovery like? I know that with the myeoblative it is very critical to maintain sanitary conditions since you basically have no immune system after the procedure. If the non-myeoablative method is less risky as far as post infection, this would probably...

Re: 2 Years Post HSCT And MS Still Stopped
Personally, I am going to try Copaxone first to see if I am a lucky one who it works on. If this fails and I continue to progress I will work on getting funds for a BEAM procedure. If I had PPMS I would try to get BEAM as soon as possible because there really are no other alternatives. I guess in my...

Re: 2 Years Post HSCT And MS Still Stopped
If they are doing this in a trial setting it seems like it would negate the trial. It would be akin to changing the dosage in the middle of a drug trial to effect the outcome.

Re: Autoimmunity is not just a theory in MS
Here is a good review article about the effect of Vitamin D on the adaptive immune system: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1568997211001042 Epidemiological studies have shown that a poor vitamin D status is associated with an increased risk of several diseases, including autoimmune...

Re: 2 Years Post HSCT And MS Still Stopped
Also, it seems like your immune system health at the time of challenge would be a key factor. For example it has been shown that low vitamin D levels during childhood is likely a risk factor for MS. So I would definetely want to have a healthy Vitamin D level after HSCT. So as you said before George...
