Re: jugular veins are 10% narrower in MS than controls
If CCSVI doesn't have anything to do with it, a lot of people are very confused, and I don't think so. Why is it so surprising that people are confused? People get confused all the time. People think dental amalgams cause MS. People think that MS is actually lyme disease. People think that bee stin...

Re: jugular veins are 10% narrower in MS than controls
What the study shows is that there is a huge overlap between patients with MS and controls, so jugular foramen diameter does not really predict multiple sclerosis. Also, we know that veins are capacitance vessels and very based on hydration status. source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2417515...

Depends how you define "reasonably". Compared to what? compared to placebo in randomized controlled trials I met someone whose face was frozen by PML. I guess that would be less reasonable. side effects and efficacy are different issues. You can die from a gastrointestinal hemorrhage afte...

My near said no to MS, but I can't stop thinking that it may be the early stages for me still, and therefore nothing appeared on my MRIs for this reason... I am a male in his mid-twentities. If you don't have lesions in your cerebellum or brain stem which explain your dizziness, then the symptom is...

Re: Scientist Claims She Is On The Verge Of Curing MS
This is silly. She is just trying to talk up the value of her company. The article presents absolutely no meaningful data to back up her claims. It is just pure speculation. The idea of a single "cure" of MS is a silly concept. For some people, current immunotherapies such as bone marrow t...

Re: Breastfeeding - the impact of hormones on MS
The state of pregnancy reduces the risk of MS relapses, but this could be due to factors other than high estrogen. Some potential examples include higher endogenous glucocorticoids, anovulation, elevated glomerular filtration rate and cardiac output, immunoregulation, and so forth. Some of the trial...

Elliot B is correct. Whether or not a disease is treatable has almost nothing to do with scientific knowledge of the disease. How effective medical interventions are is very poorly correlated with knowledge of the etiology of disease. To give an example, Down Syndrome is very well understood, but th...

Re: Vitamin D beyon any reasonable doubt
It is difficult to find any serious study on things that cannot have a patent, but this time we have an important one There is a lot of funding outside of industry. I searched "vitamin D multiple sclerosis" on pubmed and got 1088 results. vitamin D supplementation has been recommended in ...

Re: Only 21% of people with MS in the UK receive a DMT
A lot of these people may have longstanding progressive multiple sclerosis or they may be very stable patients with benign or burnt out multiple sclerosis. Still others may prefer to avoid drugs based on personal preference. The 25% of patients who are not aware of DMTs being available to them may b...

Re: CIS and MRI
Earth: I don't think that I am the right person to answer this question, but it sounds as though a professional neurologist who is familiar with your history, exam, and imaging results feels that you have no sign of central nervous system inflammation. Of course, s/he could be wrong, but this is ver...

Re: small vessel disease and MS
small vessel disease is different from MS. These are small infarcts in the distribution of small arteries. They are correlated with vascular risk factors (diabetes, hypertension, age, smoking, sedentary lifestyle), stroke, coronary artery disease, and peripheral vascular disease pathologically, they...

Re: CIS and MRI
Earth: It is quite common for people to have a single demyelinating event and not go on to develop multiple sclerosis. For instance, based on the queen square data on CIS, about 20% of people developed MS after 20 years if they had zero lesions typical of MS on their initial MRI brain. Generally spe...

Re: MRI and lesions
Hi, I read on certain forums that MS lesions tend to only appear on MRIs after about 6 months. Is that true? I had a variety of neurological symptoms that started in January, and had MRIs (brain and full spine) and EVP (sensomatory) in late May. Everything was clear, but now I am thinking that mayb...

Re: work place accomodation
Hey Jerry This is a tough situation. If you are able to conceal your diagnosis and slip through the process by showing a state ID, this might be your best bet, but a lot of places would ask you to show a driver's licence even if driving were not a requirement. The problem is that you really don't ha...
