Not lyme but I had west nile virus/fever about 5 months before my first MS symptom. I did not receive any treatment for the WNV, symptoms passed within two weeks (including that virus's tell tale rash). My theory is that WNV was the trigger for the immune cascade of responses that became my MS but I...

That sounds like an awful experience! If you hit a vein on Copaxone, you could hit one just as easy with Rebif and Betaseron. They all use pretty much the same size needles for the subcutaneous delivery. They're just less frequent. Question, do you bunch up your flesh before sticking the needle into...

Lyme disease supposedly doesn't exist in Montana either, but I know of someone in Montana who FINALLY got diagnosed with it.

Sounds like that neuro doesn't sugar coat things, which is good. She said not to expect better than 1/3 reduction in relapses with a CRAB, probably because that's the mean response in trials. You might do better or worse than that. Maybe try one and see how it works for you. Keep hsct as your ace in...

question about travel immunizations & MS

I'm going to be traveling to Brazil and spending a week in a tropical forest...it's being recommended by my host to have vaccines for Hepatitis A & B, typhoid, rabies, tuberculosis and yellow fever. Not malaria, though--it's not reported in the area I'll be going to. Sounds like quite an onslaug...

Sorry to hear that you're having such terrible side effects. I only had mild flu symptoms infrequently at first. I consider the red bruises "normal" but no longer use my thighs. Those were the worst. The fact that you had quite a bit of trouble even at the lower dose may mean that Rebif is...

and I should add that I also used the MS diagnosis as the bump I needed to really excel at Wellness 101. I'd been active and exercised fairly regularly, but I amped it up, added yoga, some supplements, etc. I've since read some of your other posts and I'd say if you're worried about side effects, yo...

My choice, not my doctor's. I'm much too self-empowered to let a doctor tell me what to do. But he did give me a bunch of info on all the ABCRs (this was 7 years ago now). I also did my own research on efficacy and found Rebif was marginally more effective than Avonex. That was a relief because the ...

Likewise (7 yrs for me). I have the same question about long term effects from using interferon. I haven't found any studies or information yet.

I called the local waste disposal company to ask this question. They said they do not take sharps containers. Instead, they told me to put the needles and syringes in plastic milk jugs, add some liquid bleach, put the cap on, write "sterile" on the milk jug, and put it out with my garbage ...

Hi Andie, Rebif seems to be working for me. I've been on it since first diagnosed in 2004. I like the little bit of flexibility that the 3x a week regime provides. I can shift from Sun-Tuesday-Friday to Mon-Wed-Friday, for example. For the first couple months, I remember having some flu-like symptom...

Anxiety has caused me on occasion to have the feeling of a racing heart. I don't think I have ever experienced palpitations. I have not heard of these side effects occurring with Rebif, but everyone's different. Maybe try some slow breathing meditation while lying with your "legs-up-a-wall"...

I think it's good that you are giving this some thought. I didn't have that opportunity. When I was first diagnosed, I had to cancel out of a public presentation and have some colleagues substitute in for me. So right away my colleagues knew. And the hundred or so people in the audience from my not-...

I do believe knowledge is power but it's way too easy to get mired in the information, esp. re. prognosis. Now that you've done the research and heard whatever the gloomy news is, my suggestion is STOP READING. If you want to read something, look at dietary regimens, and supplement suggestions by ji...
