Re: What are the ideal diets?
Most MS diets stress foods very low in saturated fat. Many of them seem to be variations/updates of Dr. Swank's diet. I suggest you look into Dr. Swank's diet and also the Paleo diet to start. I also strongly suggest when eating meats eat only grass fed meats and wild fish such as Salmon, Tuna and S...

Re: If steroids don't totally work?
These are probably good questions to ask your doctor as each case is different.
Steroids are typically a temporary 'fix' for severe symptoms and are not a cure.

You can take this drugs for years and wake up one day with severe problems. You mean like MS? ...look at the result from all the people on Ask A Patient who have taken Copaxone you will know what to expect. I did. A 3.5 overall rating, most (but not all) tolerate Copaxone very well. If I were to po...

"This doesn't just happen for no reason..."
You are correct. So act accordingly. There are many things you can do to help yourself until you find out exactly what is going on. Changes in lifestyle, diet, and exercise may help you to feel better sooner.
Good luck.

Re: Would you agree to a DMD under these conditions?
"Their purpose is to modify the progression of the disease" I do not believe this is necessarily true. The primary purpose of DMDs is to prevent relapses. They are not necessarily effective in slowing the progression of MS. DMDs can possibly slow disability progression because of the reduc...

Re: Would you agree to a DMD under these conditions?
If you have not already done so, you should also check into Dr. Tery Wahls' program. I discovered her well after I had begun my 'program' and was pleasantly surprised how similar her protocol and mine are. I like to eat as well! At this point, it is extremely important to eat the right foods, and pl...

Re: Would you agree to a DMD under these conditions?
I chose Copaxone over the other DMDs for several reason. The main ones are because it has been proven effective over time, it does not compromise the immune system and was thought to be well tolerated (which was the case for me). I do not rely on the Copaxone though - lifestyle change (eliminating s...

Re: Would you agree to a DMD under these conditions?
DMDs are designed to help you through the RRMS stage of MS with minimal relapses and symptoms. They typically do not relieve existing symptoms. Other action is required to hopefully prevent the transition to the SPMS stages. DMDs to do not prevent this transition or have any beneficial effect once t...

There are numerous MS medications available to you. Since the one you are taking is making you ill, ask your doctor to switch you over to another.

Re: Gluten-free Diet
One of the first things I did even prior to my 'official diagnosis', when I highly suspected I had MS, was change my diet - a drastic change. After a lot of research over the last year, I feel that diet is a major component of MS, in both turning it 'on' and controlling it (this is my personal opini...

Re: I wish I could read an MRI
My dad had MS about 40 years ago. I have found that in general, my doctors don't really know much more about my MS than his did back then. But the good news is that much more is known about managing MS. There are many things you can do to help yourself feel the best possible. Through diet, exercise,...

Not all DMDs suppress the immune system - Copaxone, for example, is one that does not.

Re: Optic Neuritis?
Floaters are small moving (I believe protein) spots that appear in your field of vision. Do a bit of research on floaters on the internet. Perhaps that is all it is. Large ones can cause issues like the ones you are describing and may or may not move. Perhaps you should see an ophthalmologist.
