Re: Waiting on a diagnosis, have some questions
I guess you could say my initial symptoms (paresthesia [pins & needles] in my feet) were vague, in that for the first week or so that came & went. But over the course of 2-3 months the paresthesia spread over most of my skin and became 24/7. It was about a year and a half before I had a diag...

Re: New, In the process of super quick diagnosis?
Aha -- more details always help... Optic Neuritis (ON) is the one eye condition that is closely associated with MS and ophthalmologists are the docs most qualified to find it. I haven't had ON, so I don't know what kind of exam is necessary. While the official criteria specify two 'attacks' (as evid...

Re: New, In the process of super quick diagnosis?
Netbe, If it was at all funny, I'd say we're looking at an apparent comedy of errors. Several things about your story strike me as strange and other parts just worth commenting on: * If the ophth didn't find anything wrong with her eye(s), there was absolutely no reason to jump to a suspicion of MS ...

Re: no reflexes on left side of body during test
I believe a lack of reflexes is more likely from pinched (or otherwise mechanically disturbed) nerves. My understanding is that MS is generally the opposite: hyper reflexes rather than missing ones.
You should get a physiatrist to check that out.

Re: Suggestions for Questions I should ask
I go on Monday for the EMG and my PCP said if it didn't show anything that I would be referred to an academic hospital setting. He politely (and gently) told me to be a patient (said I was intelligent but that I need to stop diagnosing myself). I agree, but I feel like knowledge is power and it mak...

Re: Followup MRI
Your understanding is correct: nothing 'lit up' = no active lesions. Not all symptoms go away between flares, though, so it's not surprising that you still have issues. You'll probably want to read the written MRI report, too. It should compare this scan to your previous one, and tell you if you hav...

Re: So confused!
I went to my family doctor because I have pain in my hip...it is like it pops out of the socket and clicks back in. (normally when I have been walking a lot or in the mornings) My family doctor sent me for an MRI of my brain and called me that evening to tell me that I had MS. He said that their we...

Re: CAN ONE EXPLAIN MY MRI
A lesion is simply *any* area of damaged tissue (nerves or not). On a brain MRI, some lesions are 'characteristic of' (typical for) MS, and they can be detected (unless they are too small) with or without contrast. The contrast only helps to identify whether any of the lesions are active (currently ...

Re: pLEASE PLEASE Help I am desperate for advice with M.S
my new neurologist has said nothing really, when I asked him directly about M.S he said: im not convinced as yet and I do not have the opitcal issue that M.S sufferers have, I have had only one very severe attack. (a) Almost half of all people with MS have never had optic neuritis. (b) "Only o...

Re: No lessions and no o bands
Yes, I had an mri of my brain and spine, but both were with out contrast. I was reading that new lesions might not show up with out contrast on an mri, so I am going to ask my neuro to give me another mri with contrast this time. Contrast will not show any more or different lesions than the 'regula...

I have strange symptoms in my hands and feet, but they've so far been put down to carpal tunnel and/or poor circulation. My hands are the worst, but i struggle to find the words to express it, and the best I usually come up with is that 'my hands feel funny' - not exactly much for my doctor to go o...
