Re: Spasticity when awakening - Feet Forced Outwards

Hi,

Do you mean it's like the toes are spread further apart or is the foot angled unusually from the ankle?

Re: Antidepressants

Hi Jaded, Myotherapists are everywhere. Often they work in a physio's office but they are often looked down on by the physio's. When I was in London in 2019, I found one in Westminster who worked on me for an hour and a half. The next day, I climbed to the top of St.Pauls. Couldn't done it without t...

Re: Antidepressants

Hi Jaded, In my experience, a physio is the last person I would believe when it comes to a diagnosis of muscle tightness. They might have an academic qualification but I'm yet to meet one who has a clue about useful massage. They love exercises that are not relevant to an MS patient and just aren't ...

Re: Antidepressants

Hi, When I was in hospital, I was given something in 2014. Apparently an old antidepressant from years ago, at a low dose, as a muscle reactant. The immediate effect was hallucinations, terrible dreams and disorientation. I refused to take a second tablet. The nurse then quizzed me. The nurse asked ...

Re: Odd Symptoms, Back Nodules and Balance Questions

Hi,
I'm glad you have something definitive that you can rule out.
It does sound like something related to shingles, but the presentation is a little off the usual.

Re: need a plan to improve my gait !

I should also point out that you don’t need a private instructor. A group class of four keeps the cost down and the instructor can easily manage that. You won’t be surrounded by photogenic Instagram models. More likely, they will ordinary people with issues of their own. Classes can be quite chatty ...

Re: need a plan to improve my gait !

Hi, Floor exercises may be ok but, if you're really stiff, getting up from and down to the floor can be difficult. The second reason maybe floor exercises don't give you the resistance you need to optimise control over an isolated muscle. The consequence can be an ineffectual exercise and a cramp in...

Re: need a plan to improve my gait !

Hi, I would ask a neurologist if your limp is a symptom of a flare up. Maybe a 3 day dose of steroids might avert something worse developing. If you hitch your hip but the rest of the leg seems moderately ok, it suggests the psoas muscle is a bit tight. That's the muscle in your torso that shortens ...

Re: need a plan to improve my gait !

Hi, Can you expand a little on what your leg is doing- do any of your toes curl under (which ones)? Can you wiggle your toes on both feet? are you tight in the calf on the side with the limp? above the knee and below your torso which parts of your leg on the limping side have increased tone (tightne...

Re: uric acid

Hi, "Are you certain the ATP is the hero?" I used to believe that energy wasn't an issue for me until I started to look at ATP. My assumption was, apart from the MS, I was normal. The difference in mental clarity and energy now is stark compared to what I thought was normal. "you are ...

Re: uric acid

Hi, "Have they identified why UA is low in MS?" No is the short answer. I think its important to remember where UA lies in purine breakdown. It's the last step. There is a small school of thought that looks at purine signalling but the scientist who drove it (Geoffrey Burnstock) died of old...

Re: uric acid

Hi Anonymoose, I am into a normal uric acid level. It is a goldilocks level: not too high, not too low. People with MS generally have too low a level, so the question is why. This seems to have been ignored in recent years. As I said earlier, uric acid is a breakdown product of ATP. To create ATP we...
