Re: SPASM AND STIFFNESS AS SPASTICITY

JL, I agree that calcium/magnesium are essential for contracting/relaxing the muscles. Magnesium deficiency can only worsen spasticity, admittedly too much in some cases. Given the lack of side effects, I do find taking some extra magnesium a good strategy to follow. I already do. Unfortunately, it ...

Re: SPASM AND STIFFNESS AS SPASTICITY

Multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy can both damage the upper motor neurons. The former damages the myelin and/or the axons, the latter damages the neuron itself due to hypoxia. Magnesium does nothing for cerebral palsy after it has already been present. The upper motor neuron damage is the only c...

Re: SPASM AND STIFFNESS AS SPASTICITY

SOU, yasoo! Get some greek cafe and some baklava and relax! If jimmylegs helps even just one patient with magnesium defficiency wouldnt that be worth it? Until anyone can figure out what the hell is happening to us than trying something as simple as magnesium and zinc and a few adjustments is not u...

Re: SPASM AND STIFFNESS AS SPASTICITY

JL, I thought that the fact that tetanus caused spasms around the site of infection and afterwards spasms of the neck and rest of the body was common knowledge. There is also CNS involvement through tetanospasmin, a neurotoxin affecting GABA release. Again, I don't object that magnesium relaxes musc...

Re: Gut bacteria linked to Multiple Sclerosis

I would consider it if I were a genetically modified mouse having an autoimmune disorder. I think this is not applicable to humans, though.

Yet another "give-me-funds" rubbish "MS research".

Re: Everytime I leave my Neurologist's Office...

My neuro's advice in the previous years: You don't need antioxidants or other supplements. (poor endothelium...) Diets in MS are a joke. (nope, but I don't want to talk about blood's rheological properties) MS is definitely autoimmune. (nope!) The CSF flow has nothing to do with MS (after having fou...

Re: How do we turn off the immune system activated?

Before turning off the immune system, we should make sure that it is active, indeed. Is it? Do lymphocytes cross the BBB to damage poor myelin? I really doubt and science does so (Hendersson, Prineas, Behan, Chaudhury, Berger etc...). There is no evidence for autoimmunity in MS, except some kind of ...

Re: SPASM AND STIFFNESS AS SPASTICITY

Magnesium acts on the muscle itself. In tetanus, it is mostly the muscles surrounding the trauma that suffer from spasticity and magnesium would do great. But how about in loss of control due to damage to upper neurons? All spasticties are different in nature, so we should only be interested in alle...

Re: Everytime I leave my Neurologist's Office...

I don't know about yours, but all of my neurologists (3 so far) had one thing in common: Whatever they said, MS cause, prognosis or advice, has proven 100% wrong with mathematical accuracy, I would say. There are times that I want to ask them 43 numbers from 1 to 49 so that I play the rest 6 and win...

Re: SPASM AND STIFFNESS AS SPASTICITY

Spasticity is NOT a nutrient deficiency! It occurs due to loss of communication between the brain and the lower spinal cord, because of damage to the upper motor neurons. Unless this communication is magically restored, spasticity will be present. Some nutrients might help reducing the muscular ton...

Re: Many people with MS report difficulty walking

Breaking news! New land has been discovered beyond the Atlantic ocean! They (the researchers) are totally idiots! Why (should we) report difficulty walking, since it's obvious and the well respected, ultra specialists, PhD, MD, JVC have no solution? Oh, sorry. They have the "brand new" bac...

Re: MRI results - please "translate" into non-medical Englis

No forum member can tell whether you have MS or not. It would be irresponsible, since even qualified, experienced physicians require a lot of evidence and examinations before making a diagnosis. It seems that you have some abnormal lesions on your MRI. The best you can do at this time is have your M...

Re: Future prognosis of MS, can it be predicted?

Stats, stats and stats. The death of a person is a tragedy, the death of 1 million is statistics. No, you can't predict anything in MS. By risking of having myself crucified and stoned, I can only tell that the type and severity of CCSVI, another condition that you possibly have, could give a hint a...
