If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

ear pressure, sinus and MS

Post by Aud88 »

I developed an ongoing ear pressure problem after a recent sinus infection, in which there was fluid in my ears. I took antibiotics for 2 weeks and have gotten a clean report on my ears. I continue to have this pressure though? I also have some tingly feelings in that side of my neck and face which is probably the MS, brought on by the infection, but I also have some drainage and when pressing different areas of my head, can actually feel my sinus drain. It is driving me crazy trying to figure out which Dr. to see or what to do. I am on synthroid for my Hypothyrodism, which is now in the normal range TSH. I recently started Betaseron for the MS, along with D3, B12, Iron (Anemic from blood loss - another issue :) and now Magnesium and Calcium. I occassionally take Protonix for Acid Reflux, and Mexclizine as needed for dizziness. Any suggestions if this is just MS or some sort of sinus problem. The blood loss, by the way was from a very heavy and lengthy cycle, which is also the reason for the progesterone (Provera). Many of these are also Thyroid symptoms, but supposedly that is under control at 2.42 TSH.

Hum, I would think this pressure is from an inflammed nerve... Try some high dose B complex, it should help.

Sinuses......

Post by amber »

I have had now and before my MS, sinus issues, its always plagued me, my gp sent me to a ear nose throat specialist. I have a deviated septum what ever that means, I just wished that I would stop with the infections already, we boiled it down to allergies, and what would trigger the sinus issue.
I would see if you have allergies first and then try a speclialist. As for the numbness in the neck and face, I have had that since being diagnosed 1 1/2 yr ago. Gabapentin is a good choiced to manage the nerves. Alot of this other stuff would have been there before your diagnosis but you maybe didnt notice it then.
Hopefully that helps

Thank you for the imput...I am going to take the B100 Complex every day and see if that helps and I agree about seeing a specialist. It seems that I get sinus infections frequently and they tend to flair up symptoms. I have noticed some improvement in the ear thing over the past couple of days and maybe the vitamins are helping with that. My acid reflux is really flairing up at night again though, so I am going to really have to watch what I eat/drink and when. I am on the 24th day of my cycle now...ugggh! I don't know if MSer's are more likely to have early pre-perimenopause, or if it is the Betaseron, but I am hoping for a reprieve soon, as it is hard to go anywhere with it so unpredictably heavy.

As for the allergy issue, it may be worth looking at...thanks again for the help.
