Hi Stavros,

I find your ideas on the interplay of CSF acidity levels and MS theory very thought-provoking.

As my brain has fallen into the lower range ph soup I am unable to help you with your enquiries. I shall, however, be most interested to follow what any of our less synaptically challenged friends here has to offer.

What is this Alkaline Acid balance thing?
Alkalize Or Die A very powerful statement that is not made lightly If You Are Concerned About Your Health Do the Saliva pH Test A simple test you can do to measure your susceptibility to cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, and many other degenerative diseases. Wait at least 2 hours after eating or drinking juices. Fill your mouth with saliva and then swallow it. Do this again to help ensure that the saliva is clean. Then the third time, put some saliva onto pH paper. The pH paper should turn blue. This indicates that your saliva is slightly alkaline at a healthy pH of 7.4. If it is not blue, compare the color with the chart that comes with the pH paper. If your saliva is acid (below pH of 7.0) wait two hours and repeat the test. You can use the pH paper to measure both the saliva and urine pH levels of your body. The pH papers are a powerful tool for monitoring your pH balance system. pH testing also provides us with a way to take a more proactive role in our health. We can detect and start to correct the pH imbalances in our systems before they manifest as symptoms of disease. The pH tests are easy and quick. All you need are pH papers and the instructions for interpreting your results.

When healthy, the pH of blood is 7.4, the pH of spinal fluid is 7.4, and the pH of saliva is 7.4. Thus the pH of saliva parallels the extra cellular fluid… pH test of saliva represents the most consistent and most definitive physical sign of the ionic calcium deficiency syndrome. The pH of the non-deficient and healthy person is in the 7.5 (dark blue) to 7.1 (blue) slightly alkaline range. The range from 6.5 (blue-green is weakly acidic to 4.5 (light yellow) which is strongly acidic represents states from mildly deficient to strongly deficient, respectively. Most children are dark blue, a pH of 7.5. Over half of adults are green-yellow, a pH of 6.5 or lower, reflecting the calcium deficiency of aging and lifestyle defects. Cancer patients are usually a bright yellow, a pH of 4.5, especially when terminal.

THE pH REGULATORY SYSTEM OF THE BODY

The pH balance of the human bloodstream is recognized by all medical physiology texts as one of the most important biochemical balances in all of human body chemistry.

pH is the acronym for "Potential Hydrogen". In definition, it is the degree of concentration of hydrogen ions in a substance or solution. It is measured on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 14. Higher numbers means a substance is more alkaline in nature and there is a greater potential for absorbing more hydrogen ions. Lower numbers are more acid with less potential for absorbing hydrogen ions.

Our body pH is very important because pH controls the speed of our bodies biochemical reactions. It does this by controlling the speed of enzyme activity as well as the speed that electricity moves through our body.

The higher (more alkaline) the pH of a substance or solution, the more electrical resistance that substance or solution holds. Therefore, electricity travels slower with higher pH.

All biochemical reactions and electrical (life) energy
are under pH control.

If we say something has an acid pH, we are saying it is hot and fast. As an example, look at the battery of your car. It's an acid battery. On cold days you want it to be hot and ready, and you want your car to start fast.

Alkaline pH on the other hand, biochemically speaking, is slow and cool.
Compare it to an alkaline battery in a flashlight. You want that battery to be cool, and to burn out slowly.

Here is an example of how pH can control. Look around you at society in general. Do you see people getting exhausted, burning out, and quick to anger? Do you see a rise in violence? In part it could be due to the fact that people today lean to an acid pH. As a society we are running hot and fast. How did we get there? We guzzle coffee for breakfast (acid), burgers for lunch (acid), wash it down with king size cola's (acid), and have a pizza (acid) for dinner. In fact, with this scenario, you could easily correlate the rise of violence in our society with the increasing number of fast food restaurants on every corner. But I digress. However, this does lead me to the second part of the pH and digestive metabolic equation. pH is under the direct control of what we put into our mouths. Kind of makes sense doesn't it?

CALCIUM AND SALIVA pH
One of the most important developments in Dr. Carl J. Reich's research on deficiency disease was the development of a simple, yet accurate, clinical test for calcium deficiency. When healthy, the pH of blood is 7.4, the pH of spinal fluid is 7.4, and the pH of saliva is 7.4. Thus the pH of the saliva parallel the extracellular fluid. The calcium (mono) orthophosphate is a major component of these chemical buffer body fluids that tries to maintain the pH at 7.4. This pH is critical in promoting both normal DNA synthesis, cell growth, cell function, and cell repair. As the level of the chemical buffer drops in these serums, so to does the ability to maintain this critical pH. The calcium ion level therefore has a direct reflection on the pH. This can be measured by a simple three second, two cent pH test of the saliva that provides an immediate indication of the state of the calcium ion level, and thus indirectly the state of our health.

It is therefore evident that this physical-chemical pH test of saliva represents the most consistent and most definitive physical sign of the ionic calcium deficiency syndrome. Dr. Reich found acidic pH directly related to lifestyle defects that supported the calcium deficiency, and to all of the various stages of developing ionic calcium deficiency diseases. He found that when the deficiency created by defects of lifestyle were corrected by diet and dietary supplements, the pH rose as the disease regressed. This made this simple test an excellent means of monitoring of the progress of the therapy. It also enabled Dr. Reich to assess the general state of health of his patients within seconds. This made this simple test an excellent means of monitoring of the progress of the therapy. It also enabled Dr. Reich to assess the general state of health of his patients within seconds and to assess their proneness to develop symptoms and disease caused by ionic calcium deficiency.

The pH paper can be obtained by the general public at any scientific supply company, (Micro Essentials Labs, 718-338-3618, catalog #434), or through most pharmacists. It comes in various ranges, and the range between 4.5 and 7.5 is best. The pH range of the non-deficient and healthy person is in the 7.5 (dark blue) to 7.0 (blue) slightly alkaline range. The range from 6.5 (blue-green) which is weakly acidic to 4.5 (light yellow) which is strongly acidic represents states from mildly deficient to strongly deficient, respectively. This is over 1,000 times the acidity level of a normal healthy individual at pH 7.5, causing the body to self digest. Also, acidic pH is exhibited by anxious and depressed adults, hyper-active children, and rebellious or delinquent adolescents. Psychologically, when a child sees that he is green, he will do almost anything to be "blue like his buddies", especially if they watched him being tested. The same is true for adults, especially when the test has any yellow. This test is extremely believable, as it provides demonstrable proof of biophysical change.

The test, although generally reflective of the state of health of the patient, may not always be accurate. For example, while it is easier to test the pH of saliva than the pH of blood, due to the ease of acquiring a sample, the saliva pH could be influenced by some recently consumed food, thereby producing a false positive test. This can be overcome by waiting for two hours after putting anything in the mouth before taking the test. The patient should also draw fresh saliva into his mouth and swallow it, several times before taking the test. Also, because of a temporary aberration in the body, such as an adjustment for an over-consumption of some foods high in some contributing component such as phosphates or alcohol, the pH could be temporarily affected. Thus, an acidic test should be re-tested two hours later.

If still acidic, a good nutritional practice would be to adopt the mineral and vitamin therapy as is described in "THE CALCIUM FACTOR: THE SCIENTIFIC SECRET OF HEALTH AND YOUTH." Chapter 13: Recipes For Good Health, and as has been described in the previous chapter. This should also be augmented by a change in the lifestyle more oxygen intake (exercise) and exposure to full spectrum lighting (not necessarily sun-bathing), accompanied by a change in diet to more fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs, butter, fish, and juices, with moderation in red meats (rich in phosphates) and alcohol. Avoid soft drinks, and in general, choose the foods you know are nutritious, remembering that anything, no matter how good it is supposed to be, is bad for you in excess (even too much water can kill you). And above all, take it easy and relax, as you are embarking on a course of action that can set your biological clock back a few notches, allowing you to lead a more healthy and productive life.

What we eat and drink will impact where our bodies pH level falls, and our bodies pH will control the activity of every metabolic function happening in our body.

pH is behind the bodies electrical system, intracellular activity, the way our bodies utilize enzymes, and minerals, and vitamins. That is why pH is one of the first things to be looked at if you are experiencing unbalance in your body in any way, shape, or form. And since our bodies pH level is a direct result of what we eat and drink, anytime we are experiencing imbalance, we need to look at what we have historically been eating and drinking because this impacts our pH. It's a circle. You can't look at one without looking at the other.

What we eat and drink is directly tied to our digestive system. From our mouth through our small intestines and through our colon, that system plays the most important part in our physical well being. This system, what we feed it and how it impacts our pH, is the essential core to whether we have perfect health or not. It is really so simple.

Now you may be thinking that all of this makes perfect sense. In its simplicity, why doesn't modern medicine put two and two together and simply attempt to bring people back into balance through the food that we eat?

Hippocrates said, "Let food be your medicine.
Let medicine be your food."

If it were only so simple. Modern medicine has gotten to where it is today in part through a scientific and philosophical debate that culminated in the 19th century. On one side of the debate was French microbiologist Antoine Bechamp. On the other side was French microbiologist Louis Pasteur. Bechamp and Pasteur strongly disagreed in their bacteriological theories. They argued heatedly about who was correct. It was...

The Argument that Changed the Course of Medicine.

Pasteur promoted a theory of disease that described non-changeable microbes as the primary cause of disease. This is the theory of monomorphism. This theory says that a microorganism is static and unchangeable. It is what it is. Disease is solely caused by microbes or bacteria that invade the body from the outside. (This is the germ theory.)

Bechamp held the view that microorganisms can go through different stages of development and they can evolve into various growth forms within their life cycle. This is the theory of pleomorphism. He discovered microbes in the blood which he called microzymas. These microbes would change shape as individuals became diseased, and for Bechamp, this was the cause of disease; hence disease comes from inside the body.

Another scientist of the day, Claude Bernard, entered into the argument and said that it was actually the "milieu" or the environment that is all important to the disease process. Microbes do change and evolve, but how they do, is a result of the environment (or terrain) to which they are exposed. Hence for Bechamp, microbes, being pleomorphic, will change according to the environment to which they are exposed. Therefore, disease in the body, as a biological process, will develop and manifest dependent upon the state of the internal biological terrain. At the core of that terrain, is pH.

Both men acknowledged certain aspects of each others research, but it was Pasteur who was the stronger, more flamboyant, and vocal opponent to the quiet Bechamp. Pasteur also came from wealth and had the right family connections. He went to great lengths to disprove Bechamps view. Pasteur eventually managed to convince the scientific community that it was his view alone that was correct. Bechamp felt that this diverted science down a deplorable road - a road that held only half the truth.

On his deathbed, Pasteur finally acknowledged Bechamps work and said, "Bernard was correct, the microbe is nothing, the terrain is everything." It was a 180 degree turnaround. With his death imminently at hand, he as much admitted that his germ theory had flaws. But his admission fell on deaf ears. It was far too late. It could not reverse the inertia of ideas that had already been accepted by mainstream science at that time. Allopathic (drug based) medicine was firmly entrenched on the road that was paved by Pasteur.

The result of that road is what you see today practiced as medicine. When a body is out of balance, doctors attempt to put it back into balance first through drugs, then through surgery. The general effect is to remove the symptoms, but not the ultimate cause of the ailment.

Diet relating to PH balance

Post by Melody »

The process of restoring pH balance begins with proper diet and nutrition. This includes eating alkalizing foods (vegetables, low sugar fruits, etc.), super hydration (drinking plenty of ionic, structured, alkaline water), and proper supplementation.

When you experience the magic of pH balance, you'll rediscover vibrant health and energy. A body in balance is full of vitality, and is lean and trim. You'll find that you have mental clarity, and you'll even notice that your skin has regained that healthy glow. Simply put, a body in balance functions properly, and operates optimally.

Our bodies are alkaline by design and acid by function. Maintaining alkalinity is essential for life health and vitality. All leading biochemists and medical physiologists have recognized pH or acid/alkaline balance as the most important aspect of a balanced and healthy body. They have long known that the maintenance of an alkaline pH is critical to cellular health.

The quality of drinking water which has surface water as its source is steadily deteriorating because of pollutants and acid rain. Even ground water is becoming acidic.

Food that are alkaline that will help you stay at a alkaline state are as follows....Almonds,Apples,Apricots,Avocado,Bananas,
Beans, dried Beets,Blackberries,Brazil nuts,Broccoli,
Brussels sprouts,Cabbage Carrots,Cauliflower,Celery
Chard,Cherries,sour Chestnuts,Coconut(fresh),Collard greens,Cucumbers,Dates,dried Figs,dried Grapefruit,

You know by now I tend to run with natural approach and you also know some of my thoughts on the use of Turmeric.

Simple pH Indicator Solution
A simple way to prepare a pH indicator, instead of using pH strips, is to use the spice, Turmeric. Turmeric is a yellow powder but in a basic solution it turns a ruby red color. Actually, it turns color right at a pH of 6.8. the pH that the urine and saliva should be, most of the time.

To prepare this pH indicator solution you just add a teaspoon of Turmeric to a pint of rubbing alcohol. Shake it up and let it settle.

To use it pour some of the yellow, alcohol/Turmeric solution into a test tube or similar container. A small drinking glass will do. Add a few drops of urine or saliva and if it turns red it means that whatever was added had a pH greater than 6.8, that it was alkaline. If it stays yellow the pH is acid, less than 6.8, need more fruits and vegetables.

If your urine is acid you nee Base Powder. You take enough Base Powder so that the Turmeric solution stays red most of the time. After awhile it will stay red all by itself and then you will know what it means to be in pH balance. You will simply just feel good.

I'm off to mix up a batch and drive hubby nuts for a few days to see if his PH is balanced.
