Walking difficulties or trouble with balance affect the majority of people with multiple sclerosis, and 70% of people with MS-related walking difficulties report that trouble walking is the most challenging aspect of MS. Yet, 40% of people with MS "rarely or never" discuss walking problems with their doctor, according to the results of a June 2011 survey conducted online by Harris Interactive on behalf of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) and Acorda Therapeutics ®, Inc.

Other than back pain, trouble with walking/balance has been my major MS issue for the last four years and when ever I mentioned it to my GP she acted like it wasn't her problem. But then again I wasn't diagnosed with SPMS until a month ago so I think she just thought I was a chronic complainer.
I did go for physio therapy but until now I hadn't managed to find one that got to the bottom of my problems. Now I found a physio through the MS Society who specializes in treating MS issues and is giving me specifically targeted exercises and they are working.
Next on the agenda is to find a new GP and try LDN as I hear that helps with walking issues.

I naturally presumed that they knew this already and that is why they wanted to observe my gait as I was asked to walk up and down so they could.

It is a big eye opener that they didnt automatically realise else why the interest in my gait.

It now heartens me that over the years I have done my own investigations as to why I was affected in this way. And it is down to problems in my cervical spine (neck) which caused other problems as my lower spine twisted, and caused further misallignments and nerve problems causing spasm and tremor.

These are my conclusions not what I have been told ok

I believe that subconsciously adapted to these problems to try and stay on my feet, but eventually lost the fight as the degree of affect became to great.

I am now in the process and through a Chiropractor, Neuro Physiotherapist of rectifying the damage that has occurred. I always knew I had a problem with my neck and I was right.

It is imperative that others like myself persue the lines of enquiry into UCC , we use our necks in almost every move that we make, its important that it is correct.

The damage that my spine has suffered has been over a 10 year period, rectifying it wont happen over night but it will happen that I do not doubt.

They (the researchers) are totally idiots! Why (should we) report difficulty walking, since it's obvious and the well respected, ultra specialists, PhD, MD, JVC have no solution? Oh, sorry. They have the "brand new" baclofen... Yeah!!!

I didnt read the whole article only the first bit about Neuros not being aware of balance probs.

I dont read about research etc as I believe it to be a total waste of my time. now that I do find rediculous the amount of stuff that researchers come up with.

But then thats just my opinion

This goes on for a while, and after the fifth beer the bartender is totally confused and asks the the man with MS, "When are you going to pay for these beers?" The man answers, "Ah, now the problems start!"

Personally I'd say medical practitioners trying to manage MS symptoms are the problems especially when they're not aware that we have trouble walking. I mean seriously what is wrong with their vision.....hello I'm not walking very well and you're my physician.
