The Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) calls for urgent action and better treatments to be made available in India to address the ever increasing cases of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in India.

With more evidence gathering that genetic susceptibility for MS among Indians may be similar to that for white populations, experts fear different clinical manifestations of multiple sclerosis likely to be present in the Indian population with increase detection rates and awareness in the coming decade.... Large movement of population from agricultural to indoor work perhaps?

Bhopal-like contamination sites could be a possible explanation. Over 500,000 people were harmed from exposure to the accident (release of methyl isocyanate gas in 1984) and >3000 died soon after the exposure. Bhopal is in the exact center of India. Of course cyanates can damage nerves. I would also think that detection rates of adult-onset diseases are improving due to improvements and continuity of access to medical care to get detected.
