MS patients see rapid expansion of effective new treatments

Post by MSUK »

After decades of research, multiple sclerosis patients are seeing a "rapid expansion" of effective new treatment options, according to a review article in the journal Neurologic Clinics.

Recently approved drugs, as well as medications being tested in clinical trials, appear to be more effective than the first generation of new drugs introduced in the 1990s. But the new medications also may present complex side effect profiles, according to the article's author, Dr. Matthew McCoyd of Loyola University Medical Center. McCoyd is a neurologist who specialises MS........Read More - http://www.ms-uk.org/index.cfm/MSnews

Hmmm....more effective than the first generation of new drugs in the 90's...we all know the efficacy of those drugs was abysmal...so bad that the UK national health service did a study on paying the companies based on the positive results of the drugs and determined that the manufacturers would have to pay the government!

And the side effects of the new drugs are a bit complex...an understatement if I ever saw one.

Too bad they didn't look at the cost of the new drugs and compare a cost/effective ratio with them.

Unfortunately, the approved treatments for MS today are all based on very powerful, immune system altering drugs that are immensely expensive. And we still don't know what causes the disease!

Thank you HarryZ for staying involved. We need third party opinions from those that are familiar with the propoganda.
Thank you again, I appreciate your thoughts and inputs.

Even though it's been almost 6 years since my wife passed away from this lousy disease, I still particiapte in this site because of its quality in providing MS patients an all around perspective. I've followed MS research for almost 50 years now (had an uncle who had the disease) and I'm not about to disappear from giving my opinion on what I think about the drug companies who tell us their main interest is the health of MS patients. From what I've seen, I know better!

I third what Harry said! Sometimes "MS Specialist" sends up a red flag, in my opinion....could be code for big pharma's best friend....
