EBV and MS - new study started

Post by kratos »

Charcot Project 2 has started!

Barts and The London Neuroimmunology Group has started a new study about the link between EBV virus and Multiple Sclerosis.
They want to test if Famciclovir is able to get rid of EBV activity.

Here you can read more about this fascinating subject.

They are crowfunding this study, so if you want you can contribute.

Well done!

I have contributed as well, because I feel that if we want to search the cause of MS we simply can't wait an answer from pharma.

We just know the answer from pharma: lifelong immune system depletion.

I paste the direct link of Crowdacure for everyone that would like to contribute a little to this important research; there you will find a video from the researchers explaining the link between EBV and MS.

I hope a lot of people will join this effort!

Yes, you are right; I am still waiting the results as well.
In the Barts blog they say should all be published soon.
Anyway, Charcot2 is starting and hopefully will unravel something new about the real cause of MS.
Here some words from the blog Researchers about the link between EBV and MS:
Here is some more information on the topic. Did you know that if you develop infectious mononucleosis (IM) due to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection you are more than twice as likely to develop MS than if you acquire EBV without any symptoms (asymptomatic EBV infection)? Even more impressive is that people who don't get infected with EBV are protected from getting MS. In addition, if you have been tested and shown to be EBV negative and then go onto develop MS you alway get infected with EBV prior to developing MS. These epidemiological insights are the main pillars supporting EBV as the likely cause of MS. What we don't know is how EBV causes MS at a molecular level.

Yes they have talking about the same argument, here you go:

although I think they commented another research (same argument)

Gammaherpesvirus Infection of Human Neuronal Cells

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26628726

I hope this crowdfunding can gain momentum.....only 94 people have contributed sofar.....

I think its the same research. Both are attributed to the author "Hem Chandra Jha" and "Jha HC". One is the PubMed reference and the other is from a news publication.
