Re: Resistance training may slow the progression of MS
When I was in physical therapy school we visited a program called MS Forward that was run by an extremely passionate and enthusiastic champion of the cause, if you will, who himself suffered from MS.
Anyway, the program was all about circuit and resistance training. It was basically a gym for MS patients all across the spectrum, and I mean from wheelchair bound to barely noticeable, to come and work out.
While I can't comment as to the actual changes made by the program in the participants, as I was only there observing for 2 days, I will say I have never seen wheelchair-bound MS patients with as much functional strength as these program participants.
So, long winded answer short, yeah. I'm a big believer in resistance training for MS - wouldn't have ventured it to be a neural plasticity thing, though, I will have to follow that link.
Cheers,
Tim
